So...this restaurant USED to be good. Great, even! I had given it a solid five stars and praised the place. I'd say post quarantine the quality has been going down, down, down. They must have turned over chefs, lost help, I don't know, but it's not even worth going to anymore. Today will be my last visit. There are PLENTY of other great restaurants around that are comparable in price and far better quality at this juncture.
Today I ordered a sandwich and a salad. It took 63 minutes for them to complete this order. A sandwich. A salad. That's it. They burnt the sandwich, I guess that's what took so long, and the lettuce in the salad was brown. They had to age the lettuce, too, I guess. Not only that but the tomatoes in the salad were mealy, like they were cut days ago and just left in the fridge to get gross. Also, they put the dressing in the salad and pre mix it. I don't know whose bright idea that is, but by the time I got home to eat the salad, the whole thing was gross and slimy...and I only live 8 minutes away, so I'm not taking responsibility for not sitting down to eat fast enough.
Edit: They sell these small tins of cookies that they make there. They literally tasted like drywall and c*m. Yes, I know what these things taste like individually. It is not a desirable combined taste in any...
Read morePiato is a rare gem. As someone who worked as a private chef, I’m passionate and particular about food to say the least! I cook most of my own meals, and when I eat outside of my home, I seek out warm-hearted places that prioritize quality. When I serendipitously happened upon Piato, I was having quite a rough day. But as soon as I walked in, I felt relieved. I used to advise commercial property owners on designing interiors to support human health and wellness, and I can’t help but gush when I enter a space that achieves this.
The colors, textures, and decor evoke the soothing, cooling, and breezy spirit of the Mediterranean coast. Piato’s interior feels light, timeless, elegant, cozy, and unfussy. For a smaller space, it feels open and expansive thanks to a mindfully minimalist touch. After a delicious lunch and lovely chat with the staff, my spirit was restored. For me, that’s what a great restaurant accomplishes. It nourishes bodies and lifts hearts. In times like these, we need spots like this more than ever.
I can’t wait to return, not just to savor the excellent food, but to enjoy more conversation with the kind and caring staff. I am so grateful to have this precious place in the neighborhood.
Brava Deborah!...
Read moreThe pita that comes at the start was delicious - seasoned with olive oil and spices, and they offer more after you've eaten it all. My branzino was cooked to perfection, and the buttery sauce was tasty. But paired with the lemon potatoes, it was too buttery all together; I'd recommend choosing a different side dish if you order the fish. My husband was happy with his gyros and fries. We agreed that the felafel appetizer was too dry, and would have preferred it served with tzaziki rather than hummus. The service was very attentive, however it's possible to be TOO attentive. There was a lot of waitstaff, and every single one of them asked "how is everything?" every time they passed by, including several times before we even had any food yet to report on. I get that a new restaurant wants to make a good impression, but the constant interruptions were starting to feel intrusive, so I would suggest they calm down a little with asking how things are. Ideally I'd give 3.5 stars. We'll go again, and hope that the staff is less overly eager (which certainly isn't the...
