The manager acted unprofessionally, which ended up ruining our night. The food was just ok this time around. Our waiter was attentive and did a good job. My wife and I were quoted a 40-60 minute wait time upon arrival (no problem of course). At 90 minutes we had a hungry 5 year old on our hands. We asked the manager for an update and informed her that we were 40 minutes beyond the midpoint of the quoted range of expected waiting time. Rather than owning the problem, just apologizing and letting us know an updated time frame, the manager decided to escalate the situation. When my wife pointed out a text message to me 90 minutes ago that marked the time she put our name down, the managers reply was “Did you get a text from us? No? That means your table isn’t ready”. I found that to be a rude comment. The manager also decided to let us know that other people had been waiting too. Of course we understood that fact. However it didn’t change the fact that they were way off on their estimate of waiting time. The restaurant should be pretty good at estimating waiting time, especially by the end of the summer. We suspected other people had connections at the restaurant and skipped the line. Perhaps that’s why the manager was so defensive. Overall we felt snobbed by the manager. It’s unfortunate because we really try to frequent the restaurants which are open year round the area. I would be wary of the quoted wait time here and be careful about any interactions with the manager if you want to keep a positive vibe...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer at Sen for the entire 30 years it has been in business. Unfortunately, my most recent experience ensures I won’t be returning as long as the manager treats his restaurant and customers the way that he does.
When placing a $70 takeout order, I asked the staff member on the phone to please include extra wasabi and ginger, as Sen often provides too little. She assured me it would be taken care of. What I received, however, was the exact opposite.
When I called to address this with the manager, he was dismissive and combative. Instead of listening, he implied I was lying about being a longtime customer, told me "I was the only person who thought that was too little wasabi and ginger" and that he does not "give things away for free”. This was not about free items—it was about basic customer service and respect. Besides: Is a 70USD order a free order for him?
It’s sad to see how far Sen has declined. It once had great food and a loyal local following, but now it seems to rely mostly on its location and tourists. No locals I know choose it anymore. Hopefully Sen will take their feedback seriously (their Google Reviews says it all). Until then I can recommend SukiZuki instead—it’s reflected in...
Read moreAfter working in restaurants for 5 years I pay close attention to service , & I'm continually impressed with the world class staff at Sen. We arrived on time for our reservation & were seated within 5 minutes. Our server , Erin was friendly & attentive . We were greeted within 2 minutes of sitting down, she went over the specials & gave us an opportunity to order an appetizer & drinks. I started with my favorite..rock shrimp & a Japanese mule . In 10, maybe 15 minutes we had Yellow tail & Torched Salmon for our entrees & they were absolutely fabulous. Dessert was their flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream a la mode & green tea matcha . Back when I was a waiter I was trained that our guests would be disserviced if we didn't give them the opportunity to spend their last dime in our restaurant, & Erin did the same with us but with grace ,we didn't know what hit us :) Lol . I'd gladly do it again ,they have such an amazing restaurant. Last night was the first time I had been to Sen since they renovated. It's beautiful. They commissioned legendary artist Lynn Matsuoka to paint a fantasy landscape in Japan , it's hanging by the bar. Great food , great people, great service.. I highly recommend...
