We went to Il Figlio for a celebration during the week. We were so excited to see the beautiful restaurant and try the food too. When we arrived, we were immediately taken to our seats. We asked the owner what he recommended and he said to ask about the specials before ordering. Okay? You can't give us some suggestions that include the specials? Then the waiter came up to us and took our drink order. Our drinks came and he asked us if we were ready. We said no. (we'd been there for 5 minutes) He came up to us a few more times that it became irritating. In fact, another waiter came up to us and tried to take our order. We gave zero signs that we were ready to order. Feeling the pressure to order, we said we'd like to order appetizers first then order our main meal but he immediately told us that was not allowed because it was going to get busy. Fast forward, it was not that busy when we were there. Again, feeling the pressure to order, we did. Our food came and it was okay. They also never brought us one of the sides. My husband's meal was not bad. The pasta I had was fine but the shrimp that was in the pasta was mushy. I would have sent back my meal but the waiter never checked in. If he had checked in, he would have known that my husband's side was missing and my food wasn't good. Even at Applebees, they check-in to see if your food is acceptable. We felt very rushed throughout the whole experience. Then when we asked for the bill, that came fast. The bill was there for 2 minutes and he came over picked up the check to see if there was a credit card under it. He literally reached between us to take it, like he was trying to make his way between us. I have never seen anyone do this before, he was in our personal space. We had looked over the bill and he had charged us for the missing item. There were 2 of us and we spent $200 (not including tip). It was an expensive meal that was disappointing. It appeared that all this waiter wanted was to have us spend as much money as possible and get the hell out. Lastly, there wasn't too much of an intent to distance the tables. Not appropriate during these times.
Update: This was not our second time to the restaurant. I believe you (owner) are speaking about a different...
Read moreMy wife and I have gone to Il Figlio quite a few times now for dinner and really liked the place. We would recommend the restaurant to others. However, after tonight’s experience we will not be returning nor will we be recommending. We had a friend visiting and decided to bring them to Il Figlio. We ordered a bottle of wine, main courses, coffee and desserts - in other words a pretty full bill. When they brought the bottle of wine out to the table the waitress accidentally dropped the bottle at the table and it shattered two plates on the table. Luckily the bottle didn’t break, but the shards of plate went everywhere and it was obviously loud and everyone looked - not only was it slightly embarrassing but the waters needed to be replaced because of the ceramic everywhere as well as the bread, ricotta spread, napkins - the pieces of plate were all over my wife and I and under the table. It was a mess, again luckily, no one was cut or hurt. Ok, whatever - they cleaned it up and mistakes happen. We didn’t make a big deal about it. We went on with our dinner. Then the check came out at the end. The manager never came over by the way to apologize for the ruckus or ask if my wife was ok. Maybe they would cover the dessert we ordered or the espresso I got, just out of courtesy for the inconvenience? Nope, we were charged full price for everything. Ok, I see how you do business and treat your customers… I paid the check and tipped 20% because that is always the right thing to do but I was disappointed they never checked on my wife or offered to comp something small as an apology for the mistake. I don’t expect perfection, and if I had made a big deal about it and complained loudly I probably would have been placated and something would have been comped - I was just hoping a ‘nice’ place like Il Figlio would have just done the right thing without being asked. They didn’t, and I don’t have faith they would in the future either. They lost two (formerly) loyal...
Read moreCame here to celebrate our anniversary. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant for a long time! The restaurant is beautiful. The wait staff very friendly and provided excellent service. We ordered the pate. It was good, not great. It smelled a bit funky and was short on pate spices. It came with their homemade "Focaccia". The Focaccia was not good. It was sweet which was odd and the crumb was tight, not open and bubbly, and it was about 1 inch thick. As a italian who makes Focaccia a few times a week, I can tell you this was not Focaccia. It was a bread, yes but not Focaccia, don't order anything with Focaccia. It should not be sweet, it should have big open bubbles and be crispy, not soggy. Just because you Baked it in a baking dish doesn't make it Focaccia. We used the bread that came in a basket instead, huge improvement. We then ordered the pasta special. TROFIE. I was, shocked to even see this on the menu because that is a hard pasta to make from scratch. It takes a lot of practice, so I was excited to try it. My Nonna and mom used to make it on special occasions. It was disappointing. The pasta shape was not trofie shape. It didn't have any spiral to it at all. Which is essential to holding the sauce. The pasta was a bit gummy and it had corn as well. Not an Italian addition but Gave it a nice sweetness. My American husband loved it. I give the pasta a 3. Maybe take out corn and add broccoli rabe or bits of sausage. Change the name of it as well since the shape was not trofie. We got there shortly after opening and it wasn't full yet but the noise was noticeable and distracting. Probably won't go back. I guess if you are not from Italy or don't know the difference in the things I pointed out, then go there and enjoy yourselves. My review is a bit nit picky bc I saw the...
