Maybe I am dragging it, maybe this long review is karen-esque. But if you have seen my reviews before, you know i dont share much or my reviews are very short. Toro deserved 5 stars but I now rescind that. I really REALLY wanted to love this place. Great atmosphere, clean atmosphere, quality food, local and best of all, seating arrangements aren't cramped tiny booths. The bathroom is clean as well. The service is also quick. However, this has been about my 5th time here and I had a really bad experience with their food this time. I have food allergies and need to be mindful of what i eat and or order. I ordered a soup. On the menu it does not STATE potential allergens. Keep that in mind when eating here. When I recieved my soup and noticed egg (again this is not on the menu) I apologized profusely and she and I came up with remaking my soup. I did NOT touch or eat any of it prior to sending it back. Tbh, I felt TERRIBLE for sending it back. I apologized again so much because 1.Wasting food pains me 2. she's hardworking and 3. She seemed under the weather today. It's a week before Xmas so I am sure lunch rush is probably crazy with out of towners. I apologized once again when she gave me a new bowl. She then scolded me for not telling her about my allergies as if I knew egg came in the soup. It rubbed me wrong but i let it slide because now I know to assume the food always have egg even if it doesn’t. There is no advisory of allergens on the menu or for its items.
😮💨 About a quarter way into the new soup I noticed something was wrong. Tbh, the mushy dumplings gave it away. Like pasta, the longer dumplings sit in broth the mushier they become. I shrugged it off because I have never had a bad experience here and while everything is seemingly quality, maybe (my thought process) they just suck at dumplings 🤷🏽♀️ nope. I get halfway digging in my soup and start finding small pieces of egg. Ya'll 🥲 I was eating the same soup I sent back. I am now currently very ill (I just ate here today) from egg contamination. We spend $50-75 average each time we go. Our tab this time was $76 and change. It was payed with no complaint, left no tip. The review is my tip to them. I advise Toro to be mindful that their menu is NOT transparent about allergens and to not recycle allergens that can potentially injure or kill somebody. Allergens are NOT intolerance.
Btw they have pictures of their food and i was ecstatic! But there is no way to tell the accuracy of that depiction. The last time I was there I followed the sushi picture (no egg or mayo) and it came back with spicy mayo (egg) beautifully lined across the rolls . I did not send it back because my bf and I switched which resolved that problem.
*If you have food allergies, then you know the dangers and the pain our bodies show as symptoms of food allergies. Yea it varies but we can all agree our bodies basic functions shutdown. I will not be feeling good for awhile as my symptoms drag for 2 weeks minumum. This means I will struggle all of that time trying to do normal things as my body fights what it believes a danger to me.
** additional info about me- I was a waitress for many years. That's a huge lawsuit if somebody gets hurts from food served intentionally with their allergens in it. It falls under "personal injury" and the restaurant who fails to place advisory notices or re-serves an allergen to a patron who clearly states their allergies is liable for any injury obtained in their...
Read moreWent to this restaurant with my girlfriend and friend. We arrived at 6:30pm and didn’t get seated until around 7pm, we were asked to wait in the waiting area and were seated after a couple who went right in front of us. When we were finally seated I was hoping to order as soon as possible because I was really hungry. We were served our appetizer and after that they totally forgot about us. They brought my friends meal around 7:20 and I thought to myself maybe they’ll serve us in a few minutes which is not so typical because we were expecting to enjoy our meal together. One hour later after waiting I was so upset I wasn’t even hungry anymore, my boyfriend and I watched my friend eat and waited patiently, a few minutes-later I got up and asked one of the servers for the check for the food that my friend ate and was planning to go somewhere els to get dinner. The servers quickly ran after me with both plates of food, when placing it on the table the server looked so annoyed she even spilled some of my teriyaki sauce on the table and on my hand. I was done at this point, I’m not the type to cause a scene so we decided to just have the food and then call it a night. I did notice thought we were the only people of color and we were being served poorly because they forgot all about us, meanwhile they served like 20 people before us. Overall, I had a terrible experience and I would definitely rate the restaurant 0 stars, I still paid for the $93.54 meal. It suck that I spent money in a terrible restaurant with terrible service. Definitely wouldn’t...
Read moreI love Toro! The owner and his wife are lovely! We normally sit at the bar when we go. Never had an issue with service here but have noticed that I never see the same server twice. I'm guessing the problem with other experiences with bad service here was due to having to constantly train new servers. I came once with 2 new girls serving who had zero knowledge of the menu and the cuisine. - but the food still came out and it was good!
Their Korean food is good.. Soondubu is surprisingly delicious.. better than some Korean restaurants in the city. I love that they give you a pickle tray when you order a meal. I wish they had more Korean options. Their Japanese food is so-so. I had their Chicken Udon tonight and it wasn't great. Noodles were a little over cooked and there were red bell peppers in my soup - Never! At least they have Togarashi though ;)
Sushi is alright. My bf tends to get the sushi while I go more for their Korean. I do have to say tho.. their Angel sushi roll appetizer is delicious!!
All in all, I'm happy Toro is nearby and is an easy go to for my...
