I'll be as quick as possible here. Picture this: 10 friends meeting in Sleepy Hollow for a tour of the graveyard, a casual meal, some drinks, and a memorable "spooky" walk. All of this sums up our Saturday in Sleepy Hollow except for the casual meal. Post graveyard, during drinks, we call local food spots for a party of 10. This was the only establishment that could seat us on short notice. Again, let me take that back. Calling a few times within 15 mins and speaking to different people, we were given wait times from 1 hour to 30 mins. Seeing how our walk was only 2 hours away (7:30), we walked to this restaurant after being told 30 mins via our last call. Arriving, the atmosphere looked festive and cozy, with the potential for an inviting atmosphere and good food. Unfortunately, the staff didn't not reciprocate the ambience of the place. Speaking to the hostess/manager/unknown position, we were chuckled at, the kind of snicker that resides in sarcasm and arrogance. According to the woman, there was no way anyone would have told us we could be seated and it wasn't possible. Already there, hungry and with under 2 hours til our group event, we asked if perhaps we could dine outside (low 40's). Thankfully that was allowed, so we sat and joined the other folks waiting outside for a 2-top or 4-top (probably also mislead). Don't get me wrong, I understand that smaller places have a hard time accommodating larger parties, but just say that from the get-go. Anyway, we sit and wait.....and wait. Finally, about 20 minutes later, our server comes over and takes our drink order, and of course we insist on also ordering our food. A couple of apps, but mostly main courses. Everyone ordered drinks and food, bound to be a great tab for a place already packed (all 40 seats). I didn't have my stop watch out, but it was easily another 20 minutes before drinks came out and 30-40 minutes before the server decided to let us know they were out of......a soup. Come on....how long does it take to pour soup, let alone tell your table you're out of it? Alternate apps arrive about 45 mins after our order was taken and another 20 minutes later food started to come out. Alas another round of drinks was ordered and we all devoured our food (without utensils, without condiments, and with maybe 1 piece of toilet paper, I mean napkin, per person). Honestly, a complete joke. Again, the only star given is for the food, although I was nearing hypothermia by the time our food arrived, so it could have been flavored air and I would have still been chowing down. I'm not even gonna mention how a simple thing like L+T was omitted from my sandwich. We quickly got the bill and noticed there was nothing done for us. Granted, we opted to sit outside, but we were not taken care of. Our server was asked multiple times when our food might come out and his only response was, "I really don't know". The place was out of several things including drinks and we had to fetch our napkins and condiments just to enjoy our rapidly cooling food. I guess this place should change its name to Anticipation rather than Horse......or maybe Bull....
It's not over. My fiance got up to speak with the "manager", or as she sadly titled herself, "owner" to ask how come they couldn't do anything for us on the bill. She argued with my fiance and stated we didn't wait that long. Still a joke, even though we were there for over 2 1/2 hours and spent all of 10 minutes eating our food and 5 minutes ordering. Do the math. From what I hear, the woman was much nastier than that. Maybe this is just a local spot or maybe they couldn't handle the occupancy, but if that's the case, don't have outdoor seating. If at any point reading this, you think I'm being harsh or lacking understanding, I worked in restaurants for a long time before pursuing my current career and managed a very prominent restaurant in SoHo, NYC, with easily three times the capacity of this place. All of us know in the restaurant industry, the customer is your business. Don't mess with us, bc without us you're just...
Read moreI was recommended this place by someone who swore that it was a great place and that they offered great food. So I will begin with the good...
The atmosphere is amazing especially if you are a fan of literature and poems, they have amazing quotes on the wall, a beautiful painted wall of some of the great writers in history, this place has an amazing great old school pub feel and look to it, it's as if you travel back in time which is amazing! They offer some of the best mixed drinks I've ever had in my life, whomever was the bartender on 7/6/23, make sure to keep them as they know what they doing, because I ordered more than one drink and they were all consistent beyond words, something we all strive for in this beautiful business!
The salad was amazing! Fresh vegetables, an amazing house dressing, perfectly chilled, the way a salad should be served!
Now with the bad! Now before I say the bad, I'm willing to give this place another try based on the good that I mentioned above, but the bad is something that they really need to work on!
First, the waitress, she was not attentive at all, throughout the entire time we were there we had to hunt her down, and on top of that, she eventually disappeared all together and a gentleman took over.
Our food took forever! We ordered the filet mignon, both ordered medium! I ordered it with fried sweet potato and my friend ordered his with mashed potatoes! We waited more than a hour for our steaks, people who walked in 15 minutes after we did received their food and had already left before we received ours. I've been in the food industry for too many years to name, and my only guess is that our food were forgotten due to our waitress disappearing!
By the time we recieved our steaks, it was a disaster! The steaks were overcooked, my guess is that they were left in a salamander for way too long and by the time the cook or chef realized it, the steaks had died twice! My major problem with it was they still served it that way! My sweet potato fries were cold and soggy and undercooked! Now, I was a cook for 10 years, a chef for another 10, and an executive chef for another 10 and I can tell you that the person who served that food knew 100 percent that it was overcooked as they drowned the steak in blue cheese and onions to hide the burnt parts of the steak!
With that said, I know restaurants have their issues and I know my review is hard, but the fact is, the food, especially filet mignon should never be served like that!
I will reiterate, I'm willing to give this place a second chance, and if the service and food is better the next time I go, I will be more than happy to update this review! But to the owners, I would immediately in-service staff...
Read moreFirst I would like to say the host did a great job. She was patient with everyone. The wait was 45 minutes to an hour. Sadly that is where the positive stopped. We stood there waiting and people were coming back way past the time their names had been called and they were allowed to go ahead of all of us waiting. It is like people went shopping and just came back whenever they pleased, it happened about 5 times. If people aren’t there they shouldn’t have named called and then 15 minutes later get in. We sat down and they took our drink orders. People that came in an sat down after us were waited on and received their order. After we ordered we sat and waited and waited for our food. We watched another couple get their food who had come in about 25 minutes after us receive their food. We finally had to ask about our food. She went to check and it immediately came out. It became very clear our food had been just sitting back there. I literally could pick my cheese up off my burger because it had hardened back up and wasn’t melted anymore. I then had to ask the waitress for our silverware. She brought me a set and not the other 3 guests at the table so I asked if they could get some also. We started eating and 3 out of 4 of us had stuffing missing from our meal. We didn’t even bother to get it because at this point we were frustrated. Waitress came out to give us bill and she had to ask where the drink orders went. She then came out a second time to ask who had what drinks. Then when the bill came out she handed us the wrong receipts which is no biggie we just switched. She came back with our paid receipts and again gave us the wrong ones. We again switched and our credit card was missing. My husband had to get up and go find out where our credit card. The staff found it on the floor where the waitress had dropped it. I understand human error but this was way beyond an acceptable...
