Food is fantastic! You will enjoy whatever you taste. BUT!!!! The head waiter(s) are rude and are not trained how to communicate with customers.
Last week 5/25/23 we came and ask a table for 3. They didn’t want to give us an outside table because we were 2 waiting for our friend. When he arrived he told us he is not that hungry and will get just a salad. We immediately changed our 4 seat table and sat to a smaller 3 seat table. Just to respect their peak hours. They almost yelled to us and when I told them why they started smiling and they liked it.
Today, 6/5/23, we ordered some stuff to go. Waited 15 minutes. Our kid felt tired and I asked the lady at the register if we can sit and quickly eat our dinner. She said it’s fine. I have to mention that it was not peak hours and there were 4 tables completely empty. Once we sat and start eating a head waiter came and told that we can not sit there with a to go order. I told that we asked inside and sat after we got the permission. He continued to give us lessons regarding what and where a customer can sit and eat at Lefteris. Finally, it was enough and I told him that he should first communicate with his stuff before coming out and yelling at customers.
I am not sure what he was thinking by arguing with customers but as a professor I will definitely not recommend this place to any of my colleagues around our neighborhood.
Lastly, he aas so proud with himself that he yelled “eeeghhh” and went inside.

Lefteris Gyro in Tarrytown may lure you in with its polished exterior—airy, nicely lit, and fully air-conditioned—but once seated, the experience pivots quickly from Mediterranean oasis to functional pit stop. If you’re hungry and in need of basic refueling, this place gets the job done. But if you’re here for thoughtful food or gracious service? Lower those expectations faster than a sagging pita pocket.
Let’s start with the vibe: there’s an unspoken sense of urgency that hangs in the air like oregano steam. You sit, you order, you eat—and you better not linger. The staff isn’t rude, but there’s definitely a rush-you-through efficiency that makes you question whether you’re in a diner or an airport gate. It’s hard to savor anything when you’re mentally calculating how fast you can chew.
As for the food, it’s… fine. Sloppy at times. A bit of a blur of lukewarm plates and generous heaps with little finesse. The hummus and pita aren’t bad—nothing to complain about, but equally, nothing to write poetry over. You leave full but unsatisfied, like you’ve just eaten out of obligation rather than joy.
Honestly, for a more soulful, flavor-packed Greek experience, I’d suggest skipping the central square altogether and making your way to the unassuming Santorini in Sleepy Hollow. It may look like a hole in the wall, but don’t be fooled—it’s all heart, all taste, and none of the rush-to-vacate energy.
In sum: Lefteris is like that pretty picture frame at the store—you’re drawn in by the look, but there’s...
Read moreArrived at Tarrytown at around 2 pm after 3.5 hours of biking, we were starved. We walked around to look at our options and came across this place. They were bustling with diners! And that's always a good sign. We couldn't wait for a table and decided to get takeouts.
They use a virtual menu that you can see by scanning a QR code posted on one of their outdoor seat posts. There is a sign on their entrance, next to the jug of hand sanitizer that we have to call to place our takeout order, despite the fact that we were already there in person. We both ordered Lamb Slouvakas. Each platter costed $17 + $1.70 (tax or 10% charge due to the pandemic?). We only had to wait for 15 minutes before the whole order was ready, a massive bag of delicious goodness.
The Lamb Slouvakas were nicely seasoned, just a tad overdone for me as I prefer medium rare meat. However, the doneness of the meat was perfect as I had to take some back home on the ride back. It was a lot of food. It also came with a side of wedge fries or rice, and a bag of warm toasted pita breads. I love that the fries aren't the typical thin-cut McD style. They have a bite to them and feels satisfying to eat. The salad was loaded with freshly cut lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, diced red and green bell peppers, and feta cheese, with a side of pickled pepper and Dolmadakia. The Dolmadakia was really nice too. The rice was properly cooked and the grape leaf was flavorful. It reminded me of my friend's cooking. Great food and even greater scenery overlooking the Tapan Zee Bridge, what's...
