I am so glad the original restaurant I tried to go to had an hour long wait because it allowed me to stumble upon this place. And it's so good, I came back a week later for more, and I don't even live in this area.
The place is casual and bright. The food comes out quickly. As a courtesy, they bring a homemade hummus with toasted pita - so fresh and delicious. My first time had a bowl of lentil soup, which was so flavorful and filling. I really didn't need anything else, but I had ordered the Sharwma platter. It's a large portion of chicken, rice, and salad - since the soup filled me up, I had enough Sharwma to take home for a nice lunch. My son got a cheeseburger, and it was a double patty smashed burger style - he ordered the fries too and was delicious. The pita they bring is fresh, so soft and great for sopping up any leftover tahini sauce.
My second time, I knew my eyes were bigger than my stomach last time, so I just got the Sharwma platter again (yes, I know I should branch out and try something different, but it was so good and full of flavor, I needed a repeat to see if it was the same as the week before. Yup, it didn't disappoint, and this time, no to go bag needed. My friend got the Shakshuka and added on eggplant and Halloumi. It came in a skillet. I got to try some and wow, tasty. She loved it and had enough for leftovers. After a long hike, it was the perfect meal to get warm and fill up.
This will now be my go-to spot when up in the area, and I will promise myself that next time, I'll venture for something different on the menu, but then again... why mess...
Read moreI am leaving this review for Pita House because, despite ordering through a platform, the restaurant's staff was ultimately unhelpful and unprofessional. The delivery service they use apparently contracts with another service, so by the time it gets to the driver, they are twice removed from the restaurant, making accountability even harder to pinpoint.
I placed an order for delivery and left clear, explicit instructions on how to find my address and my phone number. I even texted the driver photos of where to turn, but they were ignored. After the driver circled my street for several minutes without following the instructions, they stopped answering my calls and texts. My phone then received a cryptic message stating "Call Uber your order in Street 285." I checked my neighbor's house at that address and found no food.
The next morning, my neighbor sent me a photo showing the delivery was left somewhere other than a doorstep. The food that should have been my family's dinner was discovered by animals instead.
When I called the restaurant to explain the situation, they laughed and said that I needed to contact the delivery service, and then hung up. The complete lack of accountability and the dismissive attitude of the staff were shocking. It is clear that Pita House is willing to pass the blame to a third party rather than take responsibility for a delivery failure, especially after a customer has been treated so poorly. I never received my food and I was left with an incredibly...
Read morePita House in Tarrytown is outstanding. It is such a cheerful and welcoming space with truly delicious food. The homemade pita, made fresh on-site, is a standout, and the hummus is the stuff of dreams—expertly prepared with the skins removed and blended into silky smooth perfection.
Whenever we try a new restaurant, we always have a mix of excitement and hesitation, but the lunch special here did not disappoint. The butternut squash soup was simple, light, and satisfying, and the half sandwich was surprisingly filling, bursting with a variety of wonderful flavors.
We will absolutely be back. They also offer catering, and while we were there, we saw a loyal customer picking up trays for a party of 30!
I also loved the wall of beautiful photos, paying homage to many Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, which adds to the overall harmonious and welcoming atmosphere of the place....
