Went to Augies in Ballston Spa on Sunday, very disappointed with their Mama's Gravy, tasted like sauce form a can of Campbell's Spaghetti. The meatballs were hard and rubbery, with little flavor; had to use a knife to cut through them. I couldn't even finish half a meatball. The sliced sausage was bland. There was so much leftover (spaghetti, meatballs, and sausage) as they serve family style and I did not take it home. In saying that, the appetizers were very good, clams & mussels in a red diablo sauce; we had to put clams/mussels with sauce on a small plate and that was difficult; should have had a small bowl. The stuffed clams were ok, lots if fine breading. The tortellini with peas, prosciutto, and alfredo sauce was delicious. That came home with us. We also ordered a mixed green salad and it was more than enough to serve three of us. The server was nice and explained the menu to us in detail. The bread was delicious, served warm with crispy outside. They had tabs of butter with bread and olive oil (think Saratoga) on table. Server was also attentive and our wine was refilled along with ice water. Someone else came to the table at the end and asked if we wanted a box for the pasta/gravy and I said no as it did not hit my spot. I left it at that.

Not very allergy friendly. They put dairy in their pasta itself so I couldn't even have the homemade pasta, they offered me boxed instead. I came here to get homemade pasta so that was disappointing. The atmosphere was also horrible. We were seated next to a group of 8 men who were so loud I couldn't even hear the people at my table talking. They were at times screaming over each other. It was unbearable. I know this isn't the restaurant's fault, but when we tried asking the waitstaff to say something to the table, they were condescending and rude to us. I have never had a waiter be so sarcastic and demeaning towards me. I'm guessing he was more concerned with the tip he would get from a big party and not asking them to quiet down than he was concerned with the comfort of our table. There wasn't anyone else in the section at this time so it was just us being inconvenienced by these morons. As for the food, the people I went with had vodka penne which they liked. I had boxed ziti with tomato sauce, peas, and prosciutto. It was just OK, if not a little bland. It could have used some garlic or seasoning.

I took my friend here for her first time. We were seated by a hostess who seemed agitated when I asked for a table against the wall instead of the center of the dining room. We ordered from the "Specials" menu. That caused a bit of confusion because I was unaware that the Monday special on the regular menu didn't apply if ordering from the "Specials" menu. What I thought was going to be a $40ish dollar bill turned into $102. We each had a Mojito. We shared the stuffed squash flowers for an appetizer. For our main course, we ordered the Seafood Pasta, linguini w fresh haddock, shrimp, and scallops in a delicious white cream sauce. We ordered a Strawberry desert, which I can't recall the exact name of, but it was fresh strawberries, swimming in a marscapone cheese and red wine sauce. Our waiter was very good, but we saw much less of him as the restaurant filled up. Overall, excellent as always! Thank you Augie's

STAY AWAY! I would rate 0 stars if possible. My family and I had always enjoyed dining at Augies since they first opened on Rte 50. We have also catered their food for Christmas Eve gatherings.

My family and I most recently dined at Augies on Friday, 9/12/25. My son happened to be home from military service and we wanted to treat him with dinner at Augies as he had never been there. He had previously enjoyed their food from our Christmas Eve catered event but wanted to try dining there that evening. This was the last time we will ever eat Augies!

Our dining experience started when our waiter handed me a folded piece of paper that was needed to put under one of the legs of our table to stop it from tilting. I guess the idea of the waiter himself bending down to correct the problem never occurred to him.

Ok, so now we'll move on to dinner. After approxiamately four hours of completing our meal, both my son and I had experienced severe gastrointestinal issues in the form of violent diahrrea that evening. We believe it came from the fried calamari appetizer that we both had shared. I noticed some of the calamari was soft and did not appear to be fully fried. Their chicken/veal/eggplant dish was also a complete disappointment as it tasted like it had been frozen and not the same quality as it had been in the past. The amount of onions in the Penne ala Vodka was excessive which ruined that dish as well. We had a large portion of all our food which was not eaten and when asked if we wanted it wrapped, we declined.

We attempted to call on 9/13/25 in an effort to share with the owner what had occurred. We spoke initially with a woman and after explaining what had happened she was extremely defensive and unprofessional. When we asked to speak to the owner, she stated that he was unavailable but took our name and number down to have him get back to us. We called back about three days later as we had not heard from anyone and this time spoke to a young man (Torrie) who was apologetic regarding our dining experience and explained the owner was out of town all week but that he would be sure that he received the message to call us when he returned.

As of today (9/28/25) we have yet to receive a phone call from the owner of Augies.

Rather than writing a review like this, it was our initial desire to make the owner aware that someone in my family and I had experienced food poisoning from eating at his restaurant and that the quality of food had taken a serious decline.

We have shared our disappointing dining experience with many family and friends who asked us how our dinner was that night. While I understand that there are a number of things that may go wrong on any given night at even the best of restaurants, the owners lack of follow up on our dining concerns of his resturant speaks volumes of how much he cares about providing a great dining experience. Saratoga county has some great Italian restaurants. I would encourage anyone to try them and stay...

Love Augies and their food. We've ate their several times as well as ordering food to go for special occasions and are always pleased with their food. Tonight we ate out for our anniversary and we got a waitress named "Harley". Had it not have been for the bus boys attentiveness and coming back to bag/box up our leftovers and refill our water glasses and bring us desert menus then we would have had no service at all. They even were the ones who brought us our antipasto and our main pasta dish when it was ready..not her. She never bothered stopping to ask how we were doing or how our food was until we were nearly finished and I think it was because she was asking another table behind us and she caught me flashing her a look so she figured she better ask us as well. She spent a good majority of her time talking to a table of 2 who had already finished eating and was in the process of paying their bill and continued to chat with them for a good 20 mins. Other than getting my husband a refill on his beverage pretty early on, she never really returned other than to bring us the check at the end. I understand that waitresses work hard as I was once one myself, but she is the reason why most don't recieve a good tip. The bus boys or understudies I guess you could call them were very good and if it were up to me they would have gotten the tip directly to split and Harley would have gotten none because after she introduced herself and said she would be "taking care of us this evening", she made herself scarce and was of no help. She really did no work to deserve any kind of a tip. The place was not busy for a Sunday evening and we had even made a reservation so their is no excuse for her flakey and scarce service. I will continue to order out from Augies and will only eat in probably once or twice a year for fear of her poor service. As always, the food was amazing and is the reason we always come back for more. The rest of the staff was very helpful. They run a great and successful business and the family style food is incomparable to any other restaurant. I highly recommend...

My family has always loved Augie's, we mourned when the original building burned down and couldn’t get their food for a span of time. When they came back, we went back to ordering a full dinner there at least once a month. But lately the quality of the food has gone downhill and it’s really sad. We’ve ordered it less and less frequently. And after today (we only ordered because most places are closed Mondays), we finally might not come back. The quality was just unacceptable.

While the salads and their dressing and the gnocchi were up to what we’ve come to expect (though not as good as it has been in the past), the rest of what we ordered fell flat, or worse.

The quality of the pea, artichoke, and broccoli penne was disappointing. I remember it being wildly addicting, with a well seasoned and buttery sauce that could coat the back of a spoon. Today it was vegetables sitting in what was practically water.

But the worst culprit was the chicken parm. While I’m a vegetarian so I can’t personally attest to the taste, the rest of my family said the parm tasted ā€œlike barnā€ and weirdly gamely, and the whiff I caught of it was certainly in line with that. I honestly gagged, and I’m praying my family does not suffer from food poisoning tonight from the few bites they managed.

I understand Augies can be busy as well, but it was frustrating when no one picked up phone, even just to put us on hold, when we called in an attempt to at least notify them of the situation with the parm.

When my brother went to return it, he says the person who helped him claimed he ā€œdidn’t smell anythingā€ and my brother was left feeling like he had done something wrong. Listen, my whole family LOVED Augie's, and wants to love it now, and we very rarely return food. Having our experience shrugged off feels terrible.

I don’t know if it’s a new chef or management or what, but I really hope Augie’s can improve from this. I have so many fond memories of what Augie’s used to be and today just broke my heart, and possibly my...
