Disappointing
I am going to try to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt here. I usually don't expect a restaurant to match the quality of it's food from regular a la cart to buffet. Although a true measure of the food and restaurant in general should be exampled in their buffet as well. Thus, I am torn. We went there for their Mother's Day buffet. It was almost $20 per person not including the usual brunch mimosa or bloody mary. The shock factor came when I saw a $10 charge for my mimosa, insane! They are located across the street from Manhasset bay so the views are lovely and the ease of a parking lot makes it enticing. The staff is attentive and friendly. That's about all the positives I experienced with this restaurant. The food was disappointing. They had some standards as well as their version of chicken tikka masala which was sub standard with fat laden chicken pieces. Their nan was no better than store bought pita. So I can't say I would recommend this place and I certainly won't be back. I am curious with all the positive reviews I read before going and left to wonder if their regular menu makes up for what was clearly lacking with their buffet. It was not worth the price, the drive nor the calories but all in all my mother was happy therefore the only reason I will not give a 1...
Read moreTheir Saag Paneer is absolutely delicious and the Rosemary Naan is a good partner. Prices are not cheap but you do get healthy portions on most dishes and we get a few meals out of everything if we add rice. They also have a buffet (near the bar area) that looks good but I haven't gotten around to it yet. UPDATE: 6 years later and Diwan is still delicious. Their Manchurian cauliflower is very good and the Chicken Makhini compares favorably against "chicken ruby" that we had over at Dishoom during our only trip to London. We thought London would blow our minds with Indian food but it just made us appreciate how good we have it with Diwan, where you can specify spice level for everything (we like some heat). Not to mention it's right by the water. As for the prices, I didn't mean to say prices were expensive for what you get. They aren't "cheap", but you get a ton of food for what you pay. Absolutely no complaints on the value at all!
Please never leave us Diwan, we still love the Saag Paneer with...
Read moreMy first time In New England and great neck area and was pleasantly surprised to find a revered Indian restaurant.
Chose Diwan over other options, and want regretting it at all !
On the Interiors must say it has a warmth and rustic feel to it. The staff was friendly and got me set up.
Open the menu and found that there is a daily special and as luck may have it , they had Himalayan Momos which are typically steamed. I always have been in love with pan seared version of Momos. So I requested the Waiter and he confirmed that the kitchen can do it.
When it arrived it was perfect and the tomato chutney was simply Divine. I even got extra tomato chutney.
Once this was devoured I had the entree choice to make and picked the Veggie Biryani and asked for Paneer chunks in it and they obliged.
The portion was definitely for two people , and the flavors were just perfect. The veggies were juicy, succulent and well cooked. Overall perfection in the Biryani !!
This is a must visit Indian restaurant in...
