I took my 84 year old dad to Thyme for his birthday. The menu looked awesome. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated by a window. My dad wanted a view of the pond while he ate and moved his chair to the end of table. Thats when all the problems began. First the maitre d' came over and asked my dad to move his chair. There was only one other party in the restaurant and the closest table across the isle was about 8 ft so it was no a limited access issue. I even asked my dad to move his chair so as not to make a scene. The old man would not move his chair and wanted the direct view. The maitre d' was hovering in the area and just stared at us and then I knew he was going to turn this into a big deal. He then sent the waiter over and he started in with either moving the chair or moving to another table without a view. Needless to say we did move and just up and left. I can understand them wanting everything to be aesthetically pleasing but they just couldn't let this go and basically turned a nice evening meal into an evening of disgust. My recommendation is not to avoid this restaurant but do not bring any small children or unruly young people or anyone that will not position their chair exactly as the gestapo would like. They obviously want it that way hence the harassment. Needless to say we walked down the block to our favorite restaurant, Jolly Roger, and had a very nice dinner. My dad was able to position his chair any dam way he wanted. I obviously will not be going back with or without anyone to Thyme. They can say whatever non-sense they like but they were 100% dead wrong to make an issue out of this. You've...
Read moreI've been to Thyme several times, but felt compelled to write a review after our last visit this past weekend. We (party of 6) were seated promptly - and were given just the right amount of time to socialize before we ordered. I'd ordered a Tito's and club at the bar, but when I sat down at the table to drink it, it was tonic (blech). I joked with out waiter, Tito about being a pain in the neck and he happily took it back to exchange it for the right drink. Later, when ordering, I asked which fish he'd recommend, the monkfish (which I'd never tried) or halibut. He asked a question or two, then suggested the monkfish. Long story short, I hated it (just wasn't my type of taste or texture) and when he noticed I wasn't eating it, rather than walk away when I said I didn't need to send it back - he insisted on taking it back and bringing me the halibut. It's a little thing, I know, but his attentiveness and genuine interest in all of us enjoying our meal really stood out. Everyone loved their food, from appetizer to entree -- no one rated the meal less than a 10. Thyme is a sweet, simply elegant restaurant in what appears to be an historic home right in the center of the adorable town of Roslyn. We had a great time, a phenomenal meal, and can't say enough about our server, Tito. EXCELLENT choice. After having lived in Roslyn a for a year a few years back, I found Thyme to be the most consistent out of all the restaurants in the 5 mile radius. Happy to see it...
Read moreAlways great! We have been here a many times previously and always enjoy Thyme. We went yesterday again for dinner and had a wonderful time! On Saturdays, they always have music & last nights entertainment, was fabulous! The food is always delicious, however, I specifically wanted to write a review because our server and staff were just amazing. We were seated right away, and the staff were always around, extremely professional. The drink menu is terrific, I ordered a sweet tea cocktail , so unique and delicious. I mentioned to our server Lawrence, that I have celiac. My husband and friends were shocked, without me even asking, he brought me over gluten-free dinner rolls! We ordered shrimp specials for appetizer, and the duck tacos, both presentation and taste work terrific. More importantly, Lawrence made sure that the tacos were gluten-free for me as well. I didn’t even ask, because I knew not to eat the taco shell or chips, but he came over to make sure that I knew what not to eat, and what was cross contaminated. When I usually go here, I always order of the duck entrée, however, it was not on the menu, so I tried the lamb chops, which were 4 nice size lamb chops with zucchini and squash over sweet potato mashed & again just a beautiful presentation and the food was impeccable! The rest at my table, ordered roasted chicken and pasta entrees, which they also loved. I...
