Wife and I went here without expecting much and was very much blown away with their pizzas and overall service. The people here love what they do and you can see it in the food as well. We had two personal pizzas called butchers sink and shrimp scampi. The bread on these pizzas are amazing. I have yet to see the bread cooked this amazing around this area at all. The bread is thin and crispy but perfectly chewy as well. You can look underneath and see perfect leopard spotting that gives balance to the ingredients on top. The pizzas overall are very elevated compared to what I usually eat in Rockland and Bergen County areas. We also got the Affogato for dessert and again was just very happy that we ordered a simple but great tasting combo of espresso and vanilla ice cream.

The citrus elderberry sangria is a must try. This pizzeria is intimate and quiet. It does not have a massive selection, but the options are strong and bold. We ordered the chopped salad. It was crisp, fresh, bright, zesty and vibrant. We also ordered the prosciutto , the Margherita , and the Bianca. All of them were well made. The Margherita was classic and satisfied two young children. The Bianca was my absolute favorite. It was luxurious, rich, creamy and a little spicy. I could not get enough. The prosciutto was not my favorite, the crust was very thick on this pie, however, it was still well made and had good flavors. I would recommend Mercato especially for the cocktail!

A surprisingly upscale italian-style pizza restaurant with incredibly delicious crust and fantastic veal ricotta meatballs. The olive oil panna cotta was delectable too and had us scraping the bottom of the dish for more! I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes and pizza flavors!

Mercato Roman Pizza Works in Tappan isn’t just dinner—it’s a handmade fever dream, plated hot and chased with a glass of purple revelation. Five stars, no hesitation. I walked in expecting a casual bite and staggered out like a man who’d glimpsed the divine through a haze of sausage and sangria.

Everything here is handmade—everything. The dough is alive, blistered just right, with that perfect chew that says someone back there knows exactly what they’re doing. The sausage on the pizza? Absolute carnivorous poetry. Rich, spiced, with a fennel bite that wakes up parts of your brain you thought had gone soft. Scattered across molten cheese and a bright, balanced sauce—it’s the kind of flavor that doesn’t just land, it lingers, like a good story or a bad decision.

And then there’s the blueberry sangria. Cold. Dark. Slightly sweet with a flash of citrus and just enough danger to make you loosen your grip on the evening. The blueberries soak and swell, little wine-soaked grenades waiting to explode on your tongue. It’s smooth, seductive, and utterly satisfying.

The whole operation runs smooth—tight staff, no pretension, no noise. My waiter, Cory, was sharp, attentive, and on point from start to finish. The kind of service that elevates a good meal into a memorable one.

And just when you think you’ve seen it all—the pepper shakers are automatic. No grinding, no twisting—just lift and tilt, and they buzz to life, dispensing black pepper like futuristic little spice droids. A small detail, but in a place like this, it all adds up.

So do yourself a favor. Skip the nonsense, order the handmade sausage pizza and a tall blueberry sangria. Sit down. Let go. This isn’t just dinner—it’s therapy by way of dough,...

I live in PA but grew up in Tappan so I visit my mom, that is still there, as frequent as possible. Friday when I got to town I decided to grab a slice of pizza from this new place Mercato. Walked in, asked for a slice, and was told no, we have a different way of doing pizza. Anthony, one of the owners educated me on Roman style pizza makers. He asked what I liked, I saw Brussels Sprouts on the menu, I told him them, he said "I'm going to make you a pizza you will love and never forget!" Well, he wasn't lying!!! It was one of the best pizza's I've EVER had!!! Came home and told my husband that was probably in my TOP 5 things I've ever eaten!!! And we are foodies!!! I promise you, even if you don't care for Brussels Sprouts, this will change your world!!! I only ate two small pieces that night because I wanted to save the rest for a birthday brunch we were having the next day, well, every guest that took a bite was amazed!!! SO DELICIOUS! is all I heard!!! Can't wait to try more next time in town!!! Definitely a great addition to our little town of Tappan! Go and check it out yourself and be just...

Have been to Mercato numerous times. The first few visits the food & service were great. Last night we brought guests from out of town and were quite disappointed. They changed the recipe for the grilled octopus, it is now sitting in fava beans that were sour, the original purée that the octopus was served on was delicious! I. Addition, the octopus itself was over cooked and like rubber! It was never cooked/served like that before. We were 5 people… one person winded up receiving their entree after everyone else was done with their entrees and our dishes had already been cleared from the table. He sat and ate his meal alone, while the rest of us sat and watched. A bit disappointing.. after loving it the previous visits. They were nice enough to remove the charges for the 2...
