This was our first time dining here. My husband and I went here last night to celebrate Valentines Day.
First I will say that due to the inclement weather conditions (several accidents on the road and having to trail behind 4 snow plows for 15 miles), we were extremely late for our reservation. My husband called and they said that we were okay, but that was an hour earlier. When we arrived, they sat us promptly. We really appreciated their hospitality, since I really expected to be turned away by that point. I guess they could sense our frazzled state when we arrived because our server immediately brought us champagne compliments of the manager.
Secondly, the real show at this restaurant is the food. Every single item we ordered from the menu was exquisite! Morsels melting in our mouths. From the sushi appetizer, lobster, steaks and vegetable side dishes the presentation was creative and memorable. Every dish was exceptionally delicious from the choicest cuts and the freshest seafood cooked to perfection, to the compliment sauces paired with every dish.
Our server was very friendly, but for the $$$$, we expected impeccable service. She wasn’t horrible, but not impeccable either. We asked for several things that she said she would bring, but had to remind her about. Water was never refilled. After we had finished our meals, she wasn’t anywhere to be found. After waiting a long time, we finally asked another server to retrieve her. Just not the quality of service we expected from a restaurant of this caliber.
My only other complaint is that our main dinner plates came out one at a time. So my husband’s steak was brought to our table, but nothing else. This became an issue because my very polite husband didn’t want to start eating without me. Personally, we prefer to have all of our main dishes served together for this reason, and also because it is odd for us to eat our protein dish without the partnering sides. My husband’s steak was getting cold while we waited for everything else to arrive. Not a deal breaker, but definitely a huge preference.
Overall, I gave Next Door 4 stars. Taking off a star for the inconsistent service, noise pollution, and odd timing of plate deliveries.
I recommend trying Next Door at least once. The quality and presentation of the items we ordered were well worth the price. Despite some challenges with the service, the food is bucket...
Read moreA true gem of culinary arts in Rochester! Tremendous quality and service with a great price. Demonstrates the quality and integrity of the Wegmans brand. Two points of improvement for this restaurant are in the champagne area. First, they have wonderful bottles at a good price point! They have the correct glasses for serving! However, they should ask if you want bottled or tap water before pouring as the tap water is heavily tasting of chlorine. Then, a grower champagne would be most welcomed. Sadly, the Pommery we were served was not the correct temperature. It was a bit too warm and cooled too quickly. The server, a kind and quick man, opened the bottles incorrectly- too fast, with a pop. This led to a loss of bubbles far too quickly. The aggressive pop was also indicative of the incorrect cooling of the bottles. I would prefer to have been informed of this situation and select another bottle at the correct temperature. The rest room would benefit from real cloth towels in place of the paper towels. The host area and attitude displayed there is a bit … off putting. It was short, curt, not kind and warm nor guided enough. This was a surprise given the Wegmans reputation. It would have been a bit experience should these details have been in place yet the food did shock and awe! The private room was wonderful for our family gathering. Kids enjoyed the food tremendously. Truly a must try restaurant with the right details and room to be polished through better training of host staff, champagne handling and...
Read moreI have lived in the area for over 10 years, yet this was my first time visiting this establishment. Overall, the experience was positive: the food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and the ambience was elegant and atmospheric.
Unfortunately, our evening was significantly impacted by being seated near an exceptionally loud table. Normally, when a restaurant delivers high-quality food and service, I would not feel compelled to leave a critical review. However, the volume at the neighboring table made it nearly impossible to converse with my guest or hear our waitress.
While I understand that it was a large party likely contributing a substantial bill, certain standards are expected at a Wegmans establishment, particularly given the fine dining prices. I anticipated that a manager would intervene in a professional and courteous manner to remind the group to be mindful of other guests. Regrettably, no such action was taken, even though other nearby patrons were clearly affected as well.
It is disappointing that management did not take steps to uphold the fine dining environment for all guests. Leadership and attentiveness are essential in maintaining a refined atmosphere. While we appreciated the complimentary dessert and the gesture to comp our ice cream, it did not fully make up for the disruption during what was intended to be a special date night.
I do plan to return, but I would likely choose a different occasion than a date night...
