This was the second time my family got take-out from Izumi. Our first time, the food was good and seemed fresh/wasn't greasy like other places, so we were happy to order from there again. Unfortunately, my chicken teriyaki had a dead fly in it and one of our pork dumplings had a very large piece of bone in it (the size of a tooth). I've posted photos of both.
Normally I wouldn't leave a bad review for these things. I understand that they are going to be flies where there is food and bones can get unfortunately get mixed in when meat is being ground. But I'm leaving a bad review because of the completely unacceptable way that the manager and one of the employees treated me.
When I called to report these two things, the girl who answered the phone didn't apologize for the dead bug in my food. Instead, she responded "but it's winter, there are no flies." Are you kidding me? Then she told me that if it was the summer there would be a lot of flies but because it's winter there aren't any.
She then put the manager on the phone. The manager didn't apologize to me either. She told me that I needed to bring the food back so she could show the chef the dead fly and she needed to see the bone from the dumpling because they order those from a manufacturer (was very disappointed to find out the dumplings aren't made fresh there). She asked me for my order number and when she looked it up, she said to me, "you ordered two hours ago. Why are you calling now?" I was very taken aback and responded "Because we just finished eating now." She then LAUGHED and mockingly said "It took you two hours to eat your meal?" Is this woman serious? Let's not talk about the dead bug in my food or the bone that was big enough to possibly make me break a tooth or choke; let's talk about how long it takes my family to eat their dinner. Ridiculously rude.
We ended up bringing the food back to show them since apparently they thought I was lying and they gave me a refund for those two things (they should've refunded the entire meal in my opinion) AND I didn't hear the words "I'm sorry" from the manager until I was out the door.
Horrible treatment of customers. The manager and her workers all need some lessons in etiquette and how to be polite towards...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went here for Valentine’s Day, it was our first time going to the restaurant and it was quite a packed and busy day. We waited to be seated for about 25 minutes. We were seated in dining, the food was good I can’t even lie, nothing to really complain about there. But when my boyfriend and I asked for extra shrimp with our hibachi meal the waitress rolled her eyes and aggressively grabbed the menu and pointed to the price of the extra shrimp when I couldn’t understand clearly what she said. At the end when the bill was given to us, it came out to $115, and honestly the only “nice” thing the waitress did was put our food in the to go boxes for us. She barely came to check on our table since it was so busy so I don’t really blame her for that but when we were about to leave the waitress told us we had to sign the bill (we had already paid), my boyfriend signed the bill and then the waitress said “no tip?” And my boyfriend ended up writing down “15%” which is like almost $10, we are only 17 and 18 and aren’t currently working so we didn’t have much on us, we had to literally put our money together to make the bill amount. And yes that’s on us since we don’t work, I know! But she was extremely rude and inconsiderate because we really didn’t have much money and all she was thinking about was how cheap of a tip we were gonna give her. After my boyfriend signed the bill and wrote down the tip, the waitress got mad and said “are you kidding me, that’s nothing!” And scribbled out the tip my boyfriend wrote down and stormed off. So I’m laughing cus I’m just thinking, at her grown age like she’s not serious right now. She had so many other customers that day who were most likely tipping her more than we did and at least we were even TIPPING her in the first place. But when my boyfriend and I tried walking away she turns around and stands in front of my boyfriend saying he’s rude and saying “I take your order, I take care of you”, meanwhile she in fact DID NOT take care of us. Overall my boyfriend and I rate this restaurant a 3 and we will certainly NEVER come...
Read moreWe decided to try this restaurant because we happened to be in the neighborhood. It's conveniently located next to a small shopping area with plenty of parking. The front of the restaurant is an interesting blend of Asian, neon lighting, and nightclub vibe. They have a bar area and lots of darkened booths. Located on the other end of the restaurant was the hibachi area which was surprisingly very plain and bland in comparison to the front of the restaurant.
Like most hibachi restaurants, you end up sharing the table with other diners. The chef cooks everyone's food on the flat top grill. Most of them will perform a couple of tricks like throwing pieces of food into a diner's mouth or creating a volcano out of the cut up onions. So you end up getting dinner and a show.
The menu is pretty large. They offer a very good selection of lunch options which included hibachi lunch plates. The lunch options are affordably priced and offered Monday through Saturday. If you tell them it's your birthday you get a free bowl of ice cream. We ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp hibachi options. They all came with the usual grilled veggies and fried rice. While I found the food to be very good, I thought it wasn't as well executed as some of other hibachi places I've been to. Yes, the steak was nice and tender and both the chicken and shrimp were grilled perfectly. But I noticed they put a lot of sauce in the fried rice and veggies. And all three of our dishes ended up tasting very similar.
The people next to us also ordered sushi which looked wonderful. The food presentation was quite lovely and the sushi looked very fresh. I think if we were to ever come back I would try the sushi and skip...
