What can I say about Pastrami N Friends? Well it may be smaller compared to other kosher delis in Nassau County for instance but there’s nothing small about it! It’s not about chrome, glamor and the lighting that’s the rage. From the moment you walk in and take in that delicious smell of kosher deli you step into a restaurant reminiscent of another era. There’s a cozy feel that goes beyond Ernie and Ronnie’s greeting from behind the counter. It extends more importantly into the dining room to the delightful, engaging waitresses…wait staff is too impersonal for these caring, hardworking, highly efficient ever smiling women who for this single Mom of a sweet boy who lost both parents within recent years makes me feel like we are home…that we are family.
It may sound like it’s from a Cheer’s opening, but there’s something special about having the waitresses two by the name of Paula and one Diane greet you warmly by name and ask questions based on conversations from a few weeks ago! When they ask if you want “the usual” as it mysteriously and quickly arrives at your table. The warm greetings they take the time to give you no matter how busy they are and the continued attention you receive during the course of your meal and the food make eating at Pastrami N Friends a wonderful dining experience you won’t soon forget! How do they remember the half sour pickles you prefer, the extra napkins you will need for your son, the 7 Ups in a can all arriving quickly and efficiently you wonder?
Let’s talk about the food. It’s 100 % kosher, not kosher style as has become popular. I don’t always order the “usual” even if my son does. The tender corned beef is beyond delicious, it’s the best I’ve ever tasted, second to none! The chicken soup whether rice, noodle or matzo ball is delicious with bits of celery, carrots and chicken just like homemade without the fuss! From corned beef and pastrami sandwiches to the hot dogs and knishes everything is delicious including the pickles and cole slaw that is served at the beginning of the meal. Commack is lucky to have Pastrami N Friends in its midst. This single Mom and sweet boy are happy to go to a restaurant that is not only delicious but “where everyone knows your name”! I highly...
Read moreOh! How I missed my “Pastrami N Friends.”
I’ve been in Florida for the past 5 months, so when I got back to New York, I needed my fix of Pastrami N Friends on Commack Rd in Commack.
Now I know, we all have our favorites when it comes to kosher delis, but for me, nothing beats my friends Ernie & Ronny at Pastrami N Friends.
They have been here for decades which says a lot these days.
I went to lunch 🥪 with a friend and we shared a pastrami on rye and a corned beef ion rye bread 🍞 . My friend loved the corned beef, 🥩 but for me, the juicy pastrami was my favorite! We also split an order of hot and crispy onion 🧅 rings and a square potato 🥔 knish. Both were delish.
We washed it down with a Dr. Browns soda 🥤 and gobbled up the creamy coleslaw and assortment of pickles 🥒 that came at no charge. Our server Christine was amazing. Always friendly and with a smile 😊 .
Take a look at the picks and lick 👅 your lips 👄 . You can almost taste 👅 the goodness. The perfect lunch 🥪 with my dear friend!
Highly recommend when you’re in the mood for a...
Read moreHi I used to work at meatfarms in the same shopping center in 1989. I went there almost everyday and the pastrami sandwiches were huge. I know for a fact they would put at least 12 Oz. of meat in the pastrami sandwiches back then the price was 5.99. Today, you only get 6 Oz. Of meat for 16.99 and the owner is very proud to announce that fact as I complained. Horrible , a rip off. Other kosher delis in and around long Island give you double the meat that this ripoff place gives you. Just google kosher delis and many places come up. I've been to them all. I am a food critic and visit different long Island only establishments. I have to say the waitstaff is wonderful. Also it would be nice to get a knish other than from meatfarms a few doors down were they charge $10 for 5 knishes. At this disappointing place they charge 5.99 for 1 knish. They should be ashamed of themselves. Oh and the water was delicious and the Cole slaw. Thank...
