I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but I feel reviews (good or bad) are helpful to other potential customers, to allow them to know the honest experiences others have had. I’m a local and this was my first time in the marketplace and visiting Crepes and Co. I was looking forward to a wonderful crepe (and croque) in Traverse City since it had been highly rated. Unfortunately I was disappointed by the entire experience with this eatery. First, being acknowledged at the counter took quite a while. There was no one in line: only two women waiting off to the side for their orders. Then a gentleman finally acknowledged us and as he was trying to operate the register, it was obvious he was not well trained. Having worked in service myself, I was very patient and understanding. But when he asked a question as the owner was preparing a large catering order, I was somewhat shocked by her reaction: she came over and scolded him in front of me for not ringing items up correctly on the previous order and then berated him for not knowing how to ring up mine correctly. (I'm truly sad to have to say that because I've heard she's a very friendly person and a great chef.) After all of our orders were taken she then had the same gentleman help prepare food (for immediate service not the catering) which he also was clearly inexperienced in doing. Three of us dined together and our food was ready (came out to us) in 10 minute intervals. One of our orders came out incomplete and had to be sent back. A man who ordered after us must have waited more than 30 minutes for his food - we left while he was still waiting. The service and presentation were simply poor. The staff were not welcoming - they created the atmosphere that customers were in the way. I believe the staff were overwhelmed by the (maybe) 10 customers that were in and out of there while we were there dining, some of whom only ordered coffee. Which is too bad because the coffee was bitter and burnt. The croque and crepes we tried were ok, but we just couldn’t overlook the rest of the poor experience. Honestly, the croques were dry and over toasted. The flavor of of the buckwheat crepe was the highlight of our meal. It had depth and great flavor. Unfortunately the location is dreadful too, and I realize that this is not entirely the renters fault. If you eat indoors it’s like eating in an abandoned construction site. I don’t see us going back anytime soon, and for that, I’m disappointed to...
Read moreMy wife and I came from out of town to explore Traverse City and found the perfect place to satisfy our breakfast cravings! The menu is simple but packed a good variety of sweet and savory options. I went with the Croque Salmon and a French Press coffee.
It took a little bit for the food to come out, which we expected as there was a notice that the restaurant was currently short staffed. Once the food came out and I took a bite, however, I forgot about the wait. The croque was excellent, with crispy toasted edges and perfectly melted cheese and fondue. The salmon melted in my mouth and the flavor did not get lost in the cheese. All the flavors balanced each other without one that was too overpowering. While we were eating, the woman who took our order stopped by and asked how everything tasted, which was a nice gesture to make sure our experience was going well.
All in all, I was surprised at how much I liked the food! Next time I'm in town, I would definitely come back here!!
Parking was pretty easy, found a street parking spot just outside the restaurant, but it was also off peak time on a Friday morning.
There's a nice outdoor space with a firepit and some chairs, and the area indoors shares space with a brewery. There's a couple lounging couches as well as some games as well, which is a nice way to spend time if you'll be here for...
Read moreWe had a mixed experience at Crêpes & Co. The restaurant was not very clean — the floors needed sweeping, carpets were dirty, and the overall presentation lacked care. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t make much of an effort to be friendly, which took away from what could have been a fun visit.
That said, the food itself was better than expected and had some strong highlights: • Salmon Crêpe ($16.99): Filled with house-made dill cream, cold smoked salmon, capers, and lemon. It was tangy, creamy, and delicious — the best of the three we tried. • Complete Crêpe (GF) ($12.99): A great gluten-free option with ham, egg, and Swiss cheese. It had a perfect blend of savory flavors and worked well for breakfast or lunch. • Lemon Sugar Crêpe ($6.75): Tart and sweet, with lemon juice, zest, and powdered sugar. A simple but tasty way to end the meal — also offered gluten-free.
We also tried the Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk, which was creamy and subtly sweet without being too earthy — a refreshing surprise.
Crêpes & Co. has potential, especially for those with gluten-free needs, but the dining environment and staff interactions really need improvement. If the service and cleanliness matched the creativity of the menu, this place...
