The building itself is nice enough, and has been around for years, the inside is ok but not remarkable. After checking the menu, I realized nearly all the items on the menu came with some sauce, dressing and herbs. Well, I like the flavor of meat, which is why I am not at vegetarian restaurant, lightly seasoned is fine, overwhelming is not. The pictures of the steaks on their website did not look appealing, and most of the menu appeared to be deep fried, so I ordered something basic and customizable. I ordered the captain' burger, without the white French, but thought the bacon marmalade would be good. The burger came, I checked under the tasty looking bun, with that the waitress urged " Lift it up, LIFT IT UP". Not knowing if she meant the bun, burger, or the plate, or why. I determined she meant the burger, and she seemed relieved that it did not have the white French, yes why don't we do that in the kitchen? So I took a bite of the burger that is quite sloppy from the amount of the marmalade, all I can taste is onions, no bacon or beef or bun. I scrape off the onion concoction that included the bacon, unfortunately. Tip: If the main ingredient is onion, and the only flavor detectable, call it onion marmalade, and an onion burger for that matter. Turned out the bun was good, not sure why you would want to cover with the onion. If you like sauces with strong flavors that cover the entrees, you may like this place, otherwise...
Read moreSolid restaurant for steaks and seafood. The environment is comfortable, although starting to show it's age. Maturity is not a bad thing though when it shows success. The service is amazing. Excellent ownership and staff. You will be treated like family. The food is of the highest quality and is served with love. Go for the Ceasar Salad. The Ceasar is made tableside. This Ceasar is simply one of the best you will ever have. Even if you are not a fan of a Ceasar Salad, this is a Ceasar you must try. This is a world class Ceasar! Eeyore was even cheery after giving this salad a try. The clam chowder is nicely done, flavorful with a good consistency. The chowder, while average if in Boston or Maine, is the best chowder you will find in the greater Dayton area. Steaks are done perfectly. Order steaks here with confidence. This Boathouse could easily be mistaken for the Farmhouse. As you would expect, the seafood is fresh and masterfully prepared. Some seafood selections are straight forward while other seafood dinners offer chef level complexity (possibly too complex in a few cases). Overall. This place will not disappont. You will be somewhere between wow'd by your experience or simply satisfied by your experience. Give it a try to see where you stand and good chance this becomes part of your regular...
Read moreI hate to have to do this but after many very good experiences at the Boathouse, we had a bad one. On 03/16/2022 went to the boathouse, my wife and I as well as my Father and his Wife. It was endless Fish and Chips special night, so in an uncommon move we all opted for the special. The fish came to the table and looked fantastic, big thick pieces of what appeared to be cod, seemed fresh as well. The only problem was is that it was not cooked throughout, the batter crust was great and well done. The problem I believe is that the fish was actually too thick and could not cook all the way through. The battered crust nearly being overdone but, was actually great that way. After a few attempts to get this problem resolved, we decided to stop wasting fish and call it an evening. I feel that something should have been done but was not. I am not crazy, I actually cut the fish with my knife and was tough like cutting through red meat, the fish should flake apart and be white not grayish and transparent. Anyway, one drink and a total of three or four beers at our table, my check was $135.00 and a $30.00 tip later, we were on our way. just wish it would have been a better experience, do not get many opportunities like that with parents and would prefer...
