Exceptionally great! My 6-year search for real Mexican food in RVA is over. I went to Lalo's Pinches Tacos for lunch around noon Sunday. Tried 5 different tacos, all excellent. They brought me a 6th taco to sample and it was great too! Loved the Spanish rice. Came back for dinner at 6:30PM that night and had the best consomme ever. Got the pozole to go and I'm eating that as I write this review. As a native of Los Angeles I know good Mexican food. Heck, I grew up next to East Los Angeles, and Mexican food is the native California fare, more so than a cheeseburger or a pastrami sandwich. I've lived in Richmond since 2016 and good Mex is scarce here, in fact I was warned there is NO good Mexican food in the entire South. That's a bit of an exaggeration but I soon learned all the 'name' Mexican restaurants in Virginia are only in name. It ain't authentic. It isn't even good. Lalo's Pinches Tacos is special and it's real. I'll become a regular here. Heck, I'm within walking distance! The restaurant is sparkling clean. The service is fast and friendly. I hope this is the first of many Lalo's Pinches Tacos in Virginia. The taco trailer is...
Read moreThe drinks here were bad, I've been to basically all the Lalo's restaurants because they own a few in the area, and the frozen margaritas here taste like mix with no alcohol added at all. I added a shot of tequila and it barely made any difference. Usually they are awesome and one of the main draws of coming the Lalo's restaurants, they've got an awesome house margarita! The Paloma was also really sweet and not very good. The huaraches were undercooked and really soft, without much filling. And the tacos were barely filled with very little rice and beans as a side. They apologized and gave us a bit off the check. But I think it's worth mentioning again so it can get fixed. I hate to see the restaurant fail, we were just at El Patron in Midlothian and Lalo's Margaritas which is down the street from this one, and the margaritas were awesome and food was great at both places. And original Lalo's is...
Read moreI’d like to ask for forgiveness ahead of time if this is taken as disrespectful. I had a pick up order. Service was nice. The birria egg rolls were expensive, and disgusting. What you pay for vs what you get is a huge discrepancy. The meat and food from other items were unseasoned, and unbelievably greasy.
I spent my whole life in California, I just moved here. That doesn’t make my opinion any more valuable, in fact, to some it makes it mean less. But Mexican food is all we ate growing up. All the trucks, all the mom and pop shops. Mexican food aside, this is just some of the worst food I’ve had in general. And we spend a lot of money, unfortunately for most to be thrown in the trash.
Forgive me for my harsh words, I always hope the best...
