Cafe Passe is another 6 Star hangout disguised as a 5 Star cafe. If I were King I would make this humble place my Camp David and spend as much time as possible here, absorbing all of the cool music shows to accompany the dynamite munchie food I would be eating with my Espresso... I have a weak spot for venues of any kind that sport an inner courtyard or other similar seating space. The lovely German woman who created this place had the vision and patience to allow it to grow organically. She started with the present cafe side and later added the next door space when the tenants moved out. This kind of long-term vision results in challenges, like a much larger rent payment, however it also presents rewards like increased seating, for more customers, for greater visibility and patronage. I live 1.5 hours away and still go out of my way to eat here whenever I am heading downtown for music shows or when I'm showing my visiting friends and family the Tucson hotspots that I enjoy. I always say that I'd rather live in the country and not worry if I don't get to the city, rather than live in the city and not get out to the country. Cafe Passe makes me think otherwise......

I've been wanting to experience Cafe Passe for a long while now. Always used to hear good things about it. It was closed for a long time, but ever since it opened, I've already gone quite a few times with friends and sister and even by myself. The place is lovely. Every corner where you can sit in feels cozy and homely. The servers are wonderful and welcoming! The food is.. out of my comfort zone as I am very picky, but everything I've tried from their menu has been pretty good; sometimes they run out of some items in the menu, which makes it a bit of an adventure as the menu is quite limited but at least I get to pick something new to eat that I've never tried before. Cafe Passe makes a great place to study, hang with friends or simply have some quiet time by yourself. Definitely one of my new local favorite spots to go to. Wish parking downtown would make it easier to visit, but its nothing I hold against them. Do give them a try!!!

Cafe Passe is an absolute gem at the heart of 4th Ave. The building itself has quirky charm, and my favorite area for caffeinated bliss is back in the courtyard. I typically think of Passé as a relaxing brunch and coffee location with quiet ambience, but during a recent visit on an otherwise generic Sunday, I happened to catch live music there too, which really made my day. I didn’t realize they host performers regularly now, and the menu has several options that were new to me too. Both the to-go and main dining areas can be busy during street fairs and other events, but in general it's an easygoing place with quick access via the trolley and excellent access to local shops and businesses. Already looking forward to heading back and sucking down lattes all afternoon!

I stopped in yesterday at one of my favorite cafe's in Tucson, Cafe Passe. I walked a few blocks through a blast furnace (Tucson in the summer) to get there because they have a wonderful ambiance, delicious food, and perhaps the best coffee in Tucson. I wanted to have lunch, coffee and dessert there while doing some homework for a summer school class I am taking. I have been going to Cafe Passe for years. I have introduced many of my friends to the establishment. I introduced my daughter to Cafe Passe and it has become a regular favorite for her and her friends. I always tip generously in the tip jar even though Cafe Passe isn't a full service kind of place. Yet, the snotty girls working the counter yesterday just about ruined the experience for me. I may be OLD, but I don't think that means I deserve to be treated to equal parts disdain and sarcastic derision on my visit. Shall I be specific? I helpfully carried my lunch dishes to the back counter by the door to the kitchen by the sofa area and when I passed in my plate, I asked, "Can I order a coffee here?" I had my computer set up at one of the sofa tables and didn't want to walk around to the front and leave it unattended if I could help it. The girl looked at me and said, "Well, we are a coffee shop (duh)?" She must be a little SLOW, because she didn't cotton on to the fact that I meant there, at the back counter by the sofas. When I spelled it OUT for her, she was so helpful as to insist that I leave my stuff and walk around to the other side. Which I did. I ordered dessert and coffee. They served me a tepid cup of coffee in a to go cup (I didn't ask for it to go). They acted all put out when I asked for a HOT cup of coffee instead and I got the derisive snort treatment over asking for a little cream, sugar, and a cinnamon sprinkle with it. Wow. What's the problem? Ageism? Is 50 to damn old for common courtesy at Cafe Passe? They seemed plenty chatty friendly with their younger peers in the establishment. What's the deal? Well, I told my teenage daughter, who works in food service, about it and she wanted me to call the manager. Will this comment suffice? Maybe Cafe Passe can afford to alienate anyone over a certain age? This seems a shortsighted strategy to me. In the end, I will probably go back, in hopes that the staff gets a personality adjustment - or they get new staff. Otherwise, I think I will switch to Revolutionary Grounds or Epic Cafe. They are interesting cafe on...

Went this past Sunday (3/15/15) and discovered that Cafe Passé is exactly that passé. THE worst restaurant experience I've had in a while anywhere; I should have known something was not right when my buddy who placed an order for a bagel and side salad but had to wait half an hour for his order, and only received it when he went up front to check. I stood in line for over 6 minutes to order a bottle water and a smoothie, yep you heard that right 6 minutes for a non-food order. This was after I reached the order placement counter. The young lady trying to make it seemed to have NO clue what she was doing and left her station to delivery drinks to other un-seen customers, twice. When I politely asked when I may expect my non-food order she seemed distressed and bent out of shape. After about 20 minutes, I finally received my order of 1-bottle water and 1-smoothie and as I was trying to salvage the visit with my friends the manager on duty or the owner approached our table, it was hard to tell; I thought she was going to ask us for spare change she looked as if she only makes enough money to supplement her dumpster diving based on her outfit. She tried to defend this inept employee, mentioning how proud she was of how she is unable to make a smoothie, how she shows no urgency when making orders, feels it’s more important to have peripheral conversations with random ppl rather that concentrating on the task at hand, you should be very proud of the level of mediocrity you promote. its rare. Their reasons for the slower than a snail service was they were shorthanded. Well, that seems to be more of an excuse than reason especially when taken into account the number of other employees that were there. During my visit because biz was slow (I know why now) there were almost as many employees as customers. I just hope the next owners of this restaurant values their customers more or it will become as Passé as this Cafe. let me get a jump on wishing the coming new owners luck, and to be patient this space will be available before...

I came here to meet an old friend for lunch and I had never ate here but I have drank at the bar before. And I've known about this Cafe for quite some time but I just never came here to eat. First off they did update the interior from how I remember it before and the restrooms are much nicer now. I walked in and I didn't really get greeted by anybody so me and my friend kind of waited in the front a little bit but then we decided to walk out to the back patio to see what was out there there's more chairs and the entrance to the bars back there also. We finally found a table and chairs but all of their furniture is really rough man they they have got to get new furniture my friend how to switch out two different chairs because she thought they were going to break on her and not to mention their wood and water damaged etcetera so they're not very pleasant the outdoor furniture. Anyways now to the food the menu is very limited we almost didn't even eat there because of how small their selection is but we decided to stay anyway and I had the chicken salad sandwich with the side salad and let me tell you it was really good. I wish it was in 16.00 it's more like a $13 plate but it was good so it is what it is. I do recommend this place if you're not a picky eater because again there's not a whole lot to choose from the menu they show on the Google account is not in effect anymore it's...
