Chose this hotel due to a good experience with another Hilton family hotel in Tulsa and the relative closeness of the Double Tree to The Gathering Place.
The area around the hotel seems somewhat rundown, but that is on the city of Tulsa and not the hotel. The rest of my issues are definitely on the hotel.
We check-in, get our room card keys, and head to our room. The keys are not working. Neither of the two we were given.
Leaving my wife to wait outside our room, I headed back downstairs.
After I waited my turn, I was helped by the same desk clerk who checked us in. I told her the issue, she asked my name, and after telling her she scratched out the room number on the card holder and wrote down a different number. No explanation and no apology. I thanked her and went back upstairs to my wife.
I arrived at the floor and my wife was not at the door to our room. She had moved to the other side of the bank of elevators because the room assigned first was not our room. It was someone else's and they had come to the door to see who had been trying to get in.
We located our room and in the hall next to the door was a pile of dirty linen and towels. One washcloth looked somewhat bloody. I figured housekeeping would be around shortly to get it so I did not call the front desk.
After being in our room, we got a welcome to the hotel text. This was followed by another welcome text, but this one was meant for someone else.
As it was dinner time, we headed downstairs and ate at their hotel restaurant, Made Market. The wife had some kind of platter which was huge while I had the cheese flatbread and the deviled eggs.
The bartender was also the server and after waiting some time, I had to go the bar to tell her our food was ready. I think the people in the kitchen should have said something. This wasn't a concern I shared with the front desk as I forgot and you will understand why.
Dinner done, we headed to our room, and the pile was still in the hall next to the door.
At bedtime, I checked in the hall. Yep, still there. I tossed and turned wondering why the pile had not been picked up along with why did the wash cloth look somewhat bloody? I looked out at 2am. Yep, still there. I looked out at 4am. Yep, still there.
Time came for us to checkout and continue on our trip. I opened the hotel door. Yep, still there.
Looking closely, I realized the pile was more than sheets and towels. Using the toe of her tennis shoe, my wife pushed the pile around which revealed a styrofoam food container with food and some other items.
While checking out, I told the clerk about the room mixup with no apology from the evening clerk, the text not meant for me, and the pile of dirty stuff in the hall.
In compensation, we were given 15,000 Hilton Honors points which is good for about half a night and an offer of a free buffet. I took the points and declined the buffet as we had plans already.
I don't know about you but when I stay at a hotel, I am looking for a clean room with a comfortable bed where I can get a good night's sleep.
While the room was clean and the bed comfortable, I did not get a good night's sleep with the pile outside the door occupying my thoughts.
About that 15,000 points and it being good for half a night's stay, who stays at a hotel for just...
Read moreI rarely ever stay in downtown areas due to parking. I can not stand parking garages and heard how much of a nightmare the one there was, so I was very nervous. On a Saturday night, I found free street parking right outside the hotel. I made sure to secure all of my belongings out of view. So I feel like we got super lucky not to pay the $25 parking fee. We grabbed our bags and headed into the lobby. It was beautiful and super fancy. My 7 year old was obsessed. He was bummed because you had to pay extra to stay on the higher floors, and we were only going to be on the 7th floor. But he was excited because they had a pool. We made our way up to the room, and as we opened the door and went in, we realized the room was already occupied. It was so embarrassing. To top it off, the lady said, "Wow, good thing no one was having sex in here" right in front of my kiddo. I said to him, "She said six people there are six people in there." And we went back down to the lobby. The hotel was very apologetic, and Lauren, Amberlyn, and their younger male manager (forgot his name) took extremely good care of us. They knew how much my son wanted a higher floor, so they upgraded us to the 17th floor in a city view room!!!! And double beds instead of 1 king. They also gave us complimentary breakfast!!! They went above and beyond. The best service I have had in a hotel since COVID. (And the sweet man at the Coweta hotel). Their breakfast was good. They had a potato, onion, pepper medly that was amazing and fresh fruit. Pancakes were really dry, but that was the worst thing. You can see the hotels' age in places, but honestly, it's a nice place. We had an incident in the pool where I had to stop a group of girls from abusing the chairlift and throwing nice clean towels into the hot tub. They had almost emptied the entire towel rack so others couldn't dry off. These girls were 11, 12, 13, and 14. When I asked them to stop , they told me I wasn't their mother. I told them to go get her. She was at the bar (supposed to be supervising her kids in the pool). Luckily, security was aware and were present when the mom approached because she was just as bad as her daughters. She said her daughters didn't know any better and had apologized. Other guests had witnessed their behavior and their lack of apology. Other than that experience, it was very pleasant. For being downtown and having as many rooms and guests as it does, it was very quiet. The people above us walked heavy late at night but still pretty quiet. There was no sound of emergency services all night like a lot of downtown areas. I will say $4 for a bottle of water at the little snack shop is pricey, but I didn't know until after that you could get a bottle of water at the front desk. 😅 That was my mistake. The beds were comfy, and I loved the pillows! Nice big TVs. If you are a bigger person, the bathroom with the toilet and shower are very tiny in some rooms, so beware. I could barely move in there, and I am small. Overall, stay here! As long as you aren't an issue, you will enjoy your stay! We loved it!!!! I even woke up and got a beautiful photo of the sunrise. Thank you for the wonderful and unexpected...
Read moreThis would have been a 5+ start review but for a slightly disturbing problem that I'll get to later. It gets the 4 star only because of one stellar person: Susan. Susan was at the front desk when we telephoned yesterday to see if it would be possible to check in a little early because we were to be there New Year's Eve for a wedding. She was so easy going, pleasant and helpful in listening to us and ultimately getting us in early that we determined to ask for her at the front desk. She was there, smiling and helping another satisfied guest. When we stood before us, she was so genuinely interested in how we were doing we knew this had to be the same person (her name tag was slightly obscured). She was working so many shifts it seems, especially on New Year's Eve, but you would think you were the only guest in the hotel. She joked a little with us, explained all the amenities and the discounts we had as wedding guests, and wanted to know if she could do anything to help anytime. Every time we passed the desk FOR TWO SOLID DAYS, she was there, smiling, patiently helping guests with perplexing questions. One caller had a non-English as primary language caller who couldn't understand what the "internet" was and how to confirm a booking. She did some amazing things to help. If every hotel, every service provider, had someone like Susan on staff, the world would be a better place. At check-out, we took time to tell her that she made the difference that made our whole stay a pleasant one. Even this issue for which she wan't at all at fault: there were some pin-point blood stains, old ones, on the topsheet of our bed. We called and immediately new sheets were delivered. We wouldn't include this in the review, but I think all hotels should be aware of things like this. But equally important, all hotels should be aware when one very dedicated, non-complaining, customer-oriented staff person is so wonderful that we easily overlook something like the one problematic issue and encourage other travelers to be Susan's guest at Susan's downtown Tulsa Doubletree and relax knowing she's there. BTW, we're 3 times returning Hilton Honors guests at this hotel, and will truly be looking into a return stay if Susan is there! As we told her after check out, many guests may not pause after paying and say, "you made the difference in our stay, and we don't take you for granted." We did, and Hilton should do the same for dear...
