I really hate to leave a small business a bad review, but I do hope they can grow from the feedback from the community.
This is not Hawaiian and anyone using Hawai’i or Hawaiian culture for monetary gain leaves a bad taste in my mouth - no pun intended. The word “Hawaiian” is misspelled on their truck, which made me hesitant but we ordered anyway.
Now for the shave ice - it was not fluffy shave ice. Flavors - we got two different types to try and we literally tasted no flavor at all. It looked bright and flavorful, but overall tasted like sugary ice. No flavors. The topping is listed as sweet cream on their menu, so I knew what I was getting on top - however, Hawaiian shave ice uses sweetened condensed milk - there’s a big difference in the taste.
Overall, we were extremely disappointed with the product and advertising, because you are not getting anything close to true Hawaiian Shave Ice. Standard Midwest snow cone snack - this would be a decent option. But it’s definitely not Hawaiian. 2 stars for 2 reasons - I understand disrespecting Hawaiian culture is not intentional and usually a matter of education. I respect the small business owners as a whole. And…the girl working was SUPER sweet and provided great...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the BEST shave ice in Tulsa, look no further than Sweet Shack. I don’t know what kind of frozen magic they’re working with, but this stuff is next-level. The ice is unbelievably fluffy, the flavors are rich (and somehow creamy?!), and every bite feels like a little vacation.
It’s easily the best bang-for-your-buck treat in town.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the parking lot — yes, it can get a little busy. But that’s only because literally everyone with taste buds is trying to get a scoop of Sweet Shack’s greatness. Don’t blame them for being popular — blame the flavors for being borderline addictive. That line? It’s not a delay… it’s a badge of honor. If there’s a crowd, you’re in the right place. And trust me — one bite and you’ll forget you even waited.
Whether you’re just leaving Lowe’s or making a special trip, do yourself a flavor...
Read moreThey don't use enough syrup, so you really are mainly getting ice. In Hawaii, you watch and that syrup is going back and forth for quite some time to saturate the ice so that you can actually taste it. Just like snow, when you pour something on it, it goes to the bottom. You have to keep pouring to get the snow from top to bottom. I ordered banana, mango and coconut and it all just tasted like ice until the very bottom. It was a fun try, though. Thankfully, the sweetened condensed milk on it saved the day so that it had flavor.
Fun fact: did you know shave ice is originally from Japan and is called kakigori? Kaki meaning "shave" or "scrape" and gori meaning "ice", which is why it is not called SHAVED but SHAVE ice. The Japanese brought it to Hawaii and the Hawaiians...
