Sushi Cuisine — Restaurant in Turlock

Usually I would rate this place higher, but I'm basing this solely on my visit a couple of nights ago. My niece and I arrived and were seated at the only table left, the place was pretty packed. We placed our drink order...water and hot tea. The tea smelled and tasted like SEASEME SEEDS. WTH. Totally disgusting. We placed an order for the cucumber salad appetizer, and each one of us got a roll. The cucumber salad came and it was FOUR slices of cucumber. The rest was seaweed, and some rice noodles in what tasted like Miso soup. Absolutely horrible. We couldn't eat it. The rolls came and the flavor was good but they weren't cut properly. Most of my pieces weren't cut all the way thru, so everything fell apart while trying to separate them. Some pieces were cut too thin, while others were too big. The sushi chefs were really young (they looked to be about 12 years old lol) and clearly inexperienced. I'm sure the presentation will improve with practice. Flavor wise, the rolls were good, but they were really hard to each with chopsticks as everything fell apart while trying to separate the pieces. It looked like a child had been sitting at my seat making a mess. I'll go back, but I'll never order tea or the cucumber salad ever again. Usually satisfied with the service here but on this particular day (Friday 6/15), our waitress was very impatient and rude. First of all, we had to ask for menus and when she brought them, she just layed them in a stack and walked away. Came back for drink order but failed to wait for my daughter to finish ordering a drink for my 2 year old granddaughter so when my daughter started to say "we also need a kids drink", the waitress literally rolled her eyes as she realized she had to turn back around. My mom ordered her meal and it came wrong, when she tried telling the waitress the issue, she proceeded to ARGUE with my 74 year old mother that that was what she ordered. Also forgot the appetizer we ordered and when we asked about it, not one apology came from her mistake. Never checked on us. I did not get her name but she is the only caucasian waitress there. Left very unhappy and if I return there and she happens to be our server .. I will definitely ask for someone else or...

I was in the area for business, and was craving sushi. I narrowed it down to 2 locations, but this was closer to my hotel with comparable reviews. I wish I would have driven to the other location. The atmosphere here was average, and the food was just ok; I got the lunch sushi maki combo. The edamame appetizer was good, and the salad flavor was decent but was swimming in dressing over lettuce that was browning. The miso soup was luke warm, not hot, and the house sake was the same. When I got my sushi, it came out in less tham 5 min, which tells me it was prepared way ahead of time and just cut before serving. The fish juice had bled into the rice (see photo), and the flavor just wasn't fresh. It wasn't horrible, but for the price and location I expected more for being in Cali.
