My daughter and I visited today and ordered a latte, a refresher, a baby cake, and a coffee cake with the intention of enjoying them in-house. Unfortunately, when I went to take a bite of the coffee cake, I discovered a bug on it. I brought it to the counter and informed the staff. I was asked if I wanted something else instead, to which I politely declined. The response I received was a simple, “Okay,” without any apology or acknowledgment of the issue. I was a bit taken aback and returned to my seat. After a few minutes, I approached the counter again to ask if I could receive a refund. The staff member replied, “I’m not sure, I’ll have to ask,” smiled, and then made no effort to follow up. Once again, I returned to my seat. After some time passed with no update, I went back to the counter and asked a second time. I was told, “We refunded you already,” though no one had told me. I requested a receipt to confirm the refund, which was provided. The staff member then asked if I needed anything else and said, “Thank you, have a good day,” in a tone that made me feel as though I were inconveniencing her. At no point did a manager or owner come to speak with me, nor did any employee express concern or apologize for the fact that there was a bug in my food. I left feeling dismissed and uncomfortable, as if I were a burden rather than a valued customer. The lack of accountability and empathy was disappointing.

Laurel & Pearl in Tyler, TX is a true gem tucked inside a shopping center with a high-end vibe. The space itself is small but beautifully curated—whimsical wall art, cake stands displayed along the back wall, and an inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled on something special. The food? Absolutely unforgettable. Every bite tastes like it was created with love and care—flavors so good you’ll find yourself thinking about them long after it’s over. It’s the kind of food that lingers in your memory, the kind you dream about. We actually drove in from Dallas based solely on TikTok buzz, and it was worth every mile. Not a shred of disappointment—only delight. Meeting the owner was an added bonus: She was warm, engaging, and genuinely thrilled to hear we enjoyed our experience. Their joy at going viral is well-deserved, and their passion shines through in every detail. Laurel & Pearl is more than a place to eat—it’s an experience. Worth every penny, every bite, and every trip. If you’re anywhere near East Texas, do yourself a favor and go.

East Texas still after all these years no progression! If you are a white person coming into this place, you’ll do just fine, but if you are a black person coming into here, be ready for the stares and to be ignored a bit … You tell us to stop bringing up race But I walked in and was ignored by the the white girl working But because I am strong minded, a strong black person. I’m going to always keep my composure unless you say something rude to me… I know everyone isn’t like that because the other white girl that came from the back was very nice and welcoming.. But I can tell the other girl felt very uncomfortable by my presence isn’t that interesting? How just your skin color alone can make a whole room fill out a place lol I know it’s not about me. It’s about them and how they feel inside. The two ladies in the front even ask her if you want to get someone else while we can still look it’s OK she looked at them and said no it’s fine and walked over there where they were at still ignoring me.lol I still didn’t say anything… I would eventually Have left, but the other girl came out and was nice.. Meanwhile, the other girl stood there with a disgusted look on her face And it was like she felt some type of way that the other girl helped me lol I bet you the same people will say they are Christian😬 I won’t hold everybody there accountable for her mistakes, but the point is people like that should not be working in places at least not in the front and quite honestly I wouldn’t trust her fixing my food in the back. Maybe after they see this review, they will treat the next black person...

Very disappointing experience — multiple times.

I’m extremely disappointed with this bakery. They advertise their special fried donuts, the “beignets,” available only on Tuesdays — three per serving, fresh and made that day. But every time we drive out there on a Tuesday — usually around 10 or 11 AM — they’re already sold out. The bakery is open from 8 AM to 4 PM, so how does it make sense to say beignets are “available on Tuesdays” when they’re basically gone by mid-morning?

This has happened to us five times already. We drive 30 minutes one way just for those beignets, and there’s nothing left. What are they selling from 11 AM to 4 PM if the Tuesday special is already sold out?

It’s not just Tuesdays. One Friday, I arrived exactly at 11 AM hoping to try their famous European-style donuts — one of the main things they’re known for. But there were no donuts on the shelves at all, just some macarons and chocolate cookies. When I asked what they were selling now until closing, they said they were “super busy in the morning and sold everything.”

Please make more. You’d rather end the day with a few extras than consistently disappoint people who go out of their way to visit you. My son cried that day, and again today, when we came hoping for those donuts and found nothing.

Terrible planning. Very poor customer experience. We won’t be coming back anytime soon.

⭐ One star only for the beautiful interior and how clean the place is. Design and cleanliness are great — but that’s not enough to keep customers...
