Got takeout today… No comment on atmosphere. The only thing with the service is I usually get a separate take out bag for the miso soup and I’m assuming that’s because it may leak and it’s hotter than my speciality rolls but instead of giving me two bags, the guy insisted on taking the soup out of the separate bag it was in and putting my soup on top of my rolls. The bag was leaning in my car so it makes it more likely to spill, but whatever. That’s more of a training thing. The miso was also weird tasting, like I was given the remnants of what was in the pot. No tofu, no seaweed or whatever else they put in it, just grainy broth. That was annoying. My shumai was fried HARD. When I’ve gotten shumai fried other times, it’s usually gently pan fried, not dipped in a fryer like onion rings. My shumai tasted like onion rings. Yick. What prompted my review today, after going to this place for years, is the rolls I ordered vs the rolls I received. I am ALLERGIC to fish. This includes IMITATION CRAB MEAT. I can eat other seafood but fish is a no no. So when I order a roll, and I ask for you all to add real crab meat to it, and I take the roll home, eat, and my throat is itching and other reactions that are consistent to my body’s reaction to fish are happening, I’m thinking that either there was cross contamination (which I’ve never had an issue with before), OR you all tried to give me fish and pass it off as crab meat. You charged me for REAL CRAB, I expect to receive real crab. That’s it. That’s all. Regardless of what happened, and the intention behind it, all I know is that I cannot eat somewhere if I’m being sold one thing but given something else. Especially when there are food allergies involved. So, since you all decided that you don’t want my business, and gave me an all around garbage meal, I will say you earned this star. For the near future, I’ll find somewhere else to get my sushi. Not even sure...
Read moreOne of my favorite places to eat in town is Kusshi Restaurant. The food there is always so delicious and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Today, I want to share with you a few of my favorite dishes from Kusshi that you absolutely must try.
First up is the chicken karaage. I have never tasted chicken karaage as good as the one they serve at Kusshi. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The seasoning is just right, packing a flavorful punch. I could eat this dish every day and never get tired of it.
Next, let's talk about the chicken yakitori. The chicken yakitori at Kusshi is cooked to perfection. The skewers are grilled to a nice char, giving the chicken a smoky flavor that is absolutely delicious. The marinade they use is tangy and slightly sweet, making each bite a burst of flavor. This dish is perfect for sharing with friends or enjoying as a main course.
Lastly, I have to mention the personalized California roll that Kusshi made for me. I have never had a California roll quite like this one. The rice was perfectly seasoned in combination with a hint of Wasabi. The crab meat was so flavorful and the seaweed was crisp. But what really sets this roll apart is the personalized touch that Kusshi added – they made it to order with my favorite ingredients. It was like they read my mind and created the perfect roll just for me.
Overall, my experience at Kusshi Restaurant was exceptional. The chicken karaage, chicken yakitori, and personalized California roll were all outstanding. The flavors were bold and delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. I highly recommend Kusshi to anyone looking for a great meal in a cozy and welcoming environment. You won't be...
Read more3.5 stars: a few great bites, mostly just okay. Would not go out of my way.
Came here at an off time on a Sunday and was able to grab a seat upstairs. The decor in there is very cute. Service was a little slow at first, but it could be since we came at an off time, and it was their lunch break. Overall, they were very friendly and attentive.
FOOD: ~ Yellowtail Crudo (4/5): Thick cuts of yellowtail topped with some chili oil crunch. Tasty and the chili oil crunch isn't too overpowering
~Dragon roll (3/5): Just okay. The seaweed wrapped on top blocked some of the flavor of the eel
~Uni taco (3/5): Great portion. California uni isn't my favorite (so personal preference), but it was nice and earthy with the brightness of the shisho leaf
~A5 wagyu taco (4.5/5): Wagyu was tender and seasoned well. Great portion. Sauce was good. Just wish there was some other topping to cut the richness
~Scallop taco (3/5): unfortunately the yuzu or maybe there was some kind of herb (mint maybe?) that just overtook the flavor of the taco.
~Bluefin fatty tuna taco (5/5): So good! No notes
~Sashimi sampler - 18 piece (3.8/5): good value. Overall fish quality, freshness, and taste was just okay
Not a bad spot to visit if you're in the area, but probably wouldn't drive all the way out...
