Take away from here on Friday night. Been wanting to experience Pho Ton for about a year now and have just never got the chance to until now. Pho Ton was recommended from one of my friends she and her family enjoy it and eat here regularly. Here's my honest experience. I arrived and the two people taking care of customers were busy so I got a menu and started to look at it. I decided on V3 tofu with veggies and a salad, cabbage with tofu. The lady that assisted me placing my order was very nice and very helpful. She had said that the V3 tofu with veggies was good and that, she gets that often. I asked for no rice and In place of no rice could they just add some more veggies. Before leaving with my food I asked for chilli oil and was given two small plastic containers and informed I could fill up with chilli oil self serve. And the attendent was even nice enough to ask me how much I wanted of chilli sauce or chilli oil. That was surprising to me and refreshing as most of the food spots I've been to in Vancouver and Portland (especially Portland) are very stingy and will charge you if you want more then one or two. The young lady at the front of house made my experience a pleasant one and I thank her for that she is a good host/cashier waitress and just a pleasant individual. But my star rating is solely based on the food. The V3 veggies and tofu was just boring and lacked any flavour. Also the portion was limited; very limited. And for $13.50 I would hope the styraphome box would be full to the rim. But it was not. Also the veggies were just very typical veggies that anyone might have at home their were no special greens or mushrooms just cabbage broccoli and carrots. I felt like wow I paid $13.50 for this! 😔 and it's some thing that I could have made at home. made me feel like what's the whole idea of dinning out you hope your going to enjoy some thing different or unusual that you don't have at home. The same for the cabbage tofu salad it was extremely plain and again very small portion it was just very thinly shredding cabbage and very small slivers of fried tofu. Again nothing that anyone couldn't make at home. Was hopeful for some special ingredients or sauce and it lacked flavor so over all the food was a bust for me. I think I got spoiled with all of the delicious Vietnamese food in California and Arizona. I see lots of mostly 5 star reviews here.i honestly wish I could rate higher. Pho Ton and customers have a wonderful, healthy and...
Read morePrior to this visit I was a Phở virgin. My wife and I entered with a bit of trepidation. Neither of us have tried Phở and we were not certain what to expect. The building is not a lot to look at, along the 4th plain corridor and just a 1/2 block from the 57th ave. Vine stop. Upon entering the smell of Vietnamese cooking greets you with maybe a slight undertone of a bleach based cleaning agent. The customer dining are is small but typically appointed. The gentleman that greeted us quickly showed us to our seats and left two menus before disappearing with nary a word of greeting. He returned forthwith with our water glasses and again departed without wasting words. I had studied the menu online so I already had an idea what I wanted, I walked my wife through the menu and our server approached. I ordered the Phở tái nạm gầu and my wife, always more interested in chicken than beef, ordered the Hủ tiếu gà. We also ordered a fried shrimp appetizer which arrived quickly and with a traditional Vietnamese dipping sauce. The shrimp was cooked properly and tasted as expected. Our Phở arrived soon after we finished our shrimp and my first impression was excellent. The portion was more than adequate and the presentation was typical of other ramen or soup places I have visited. We also received a plate with sprouts, lime wedges, jalapenos, and Thai Basil. I took a few spoonfuls of broth to start, wanting to ease myself into the experience. The broth was earthy and yet complex. Hints of cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, clove, onions and ginger filled out the flavor profile. The meat and noodles were cooked to perfection and I quickly devoured half of my bowl. I slowed then, and added some Thai chili's. The added bite was exquisite and I ate the remainder of my noodles and meat. I then started experimenting a bit. Adding a squeeze of lime and a handful of sprouts. I ate way past fullness and will admit that I will likely be groaning with my belly full for the remainder of the evening. I left scant room to try my wife's dish and so I cannot review it but to say that she did enjoy it and was excited to visit again. I will return to Phở Ton, and I recommend that you...
Read morePho Ton 1 has quickly become my go-to spot whenever I’m craving Vietnamese food done right. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with warm service and the inviting aroma of simmering broth.
The star of the show, of course, is the pho. Their broth is rich, clear, and layered with flavor perfectly balanced between savory depth and aromatic spices without ever feeling too heavy. The noodles always come out with the right chew, and the portions of meat are generous and tender, whether you go for brisket, rare steak, or a combination bowl. A squeeze of lime and a handful of basil bring everything together, making each bite fresh and satisfying.
Beyond pho, their menu is full of standouts. The spring rolls are crisp and light with a refreshing herb kick, while the banh mi has that perfect crusty bread and flavorful fillings that hit the spot every time. I also appreciate the consistency no matter when I visit, the quality is always on point.
What really makes Pho Ton 1 special, though, is the comfort it delivers. It’s the kind of place where you can sit down on a chilly day and instantly feel warmed up, or grab a quick bowl after work and leave feeling taken care of. Affordable, authentic, and consistently delicious, it’s hands down my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town.
