It's hard to rate a soda fountain-style restaurant on its own merits because they're just so very rare, but short of supply issues, this one performed like a well-oiled machine. Service was prompt, relaxed, and friendly. Food quality was quite high for what it offered, though the fare is relatively simple. The ambiance is a delightful throwback to a time when such places drew people of the community together, but the advent of the soda machine pretty well destroyed it. The garlic knots are a great appetizer if you enjoy garlic, but if you're not a fan, then stay away. They're heavily topped with it and the bottom of the bowl is filled with their garlic sauce. Personally? I liked it, but brushed as soon as I got home. My wife and I had their belly-busting Pink Cadillac hot dogs. I'm not sure why, but we hadn't eaten a good hot dog in a long while. A foot long beef frank, perfectly grilled and covered in your choice of three toppings, neither of us could finish it. It comes with your choice of sides. There are many fine restaurants in Venice's historic district. Come to this one if you're looking for something unique to drink or a taste of the past.

The service was the worst part of the whole place. Our waitress was RUDE and needs a new attitude or job! It was bad enough we had to wait an hr for one pizza but on top of it our waitress didn't check in with us, didn't offer us drink refills after waiting an hr and then after the 3rd time of her walking by throwing stuff on our table (pizza racks etc) and then hanging out with a friend and a child while we sat there still with no drinks. At that point I was beyond irritated and spoke with the manager about the poor service and requested a new waitress and for the remainder of our visit was given dirty glares. The pizza was okay but not worth an hour wait. I was so excited to try this place for the first time but will not return as the food is not worth the wait and the service needs an upgrade or an attitude adjustment!

In my humble opinion, if you go to Venice and don’t go to The Soda Fountain, you wasted a trip. This local classic soda shop and pizzeria is a gem. The food is amazing. I’m partial to the Italian sub. It’s my go to when I come here. Their fries look simple but are absolutely fantastic. They have a crispness/crunchiness when you bite into them and the center is perfectly cooked and soft. Their pizza is some of the best in the area. You can load it with toppings or go the simple route with just cheese. Either way, you will not be disappointed. Parking can be a bit of a hassle in season because it’s on the busy main drag of Venice. If you’re staying in the area, take out could be a good option for you. If you want to wait and sit at the restaurant, it’s worth it. Plus, you can stick around for dessert.

After my fiancée returned from.hee trip today herself and I decided to get a nice kid free dinner together. We stumbled upon this establishment and loved the appearance of the old 50's dinner. Now I can't sit here and say the food was bad. The fried picks, French fries, and dogwood sandwich was delicious and the atmosphere was everything Google depicted it to be however that's where the compliments end. Two waitresses and only 5 tables yet we had to ask for menus just to place an order. Becareful of the fine print on those menus as you will soon find out only 5 of there 30+ beverage options come with a free refill (some how sweet tea dosent qualify for a free refill). Make sure you have cash handy too or you will see there will be an additional 3.99% convience tax added to the total of your bill (wish google, the website, anything gave a heads up to this!). Service was terrible as I mentioned earlier. After finishing eating our dishes were collected and we were ignored for about 20 minutes until I requested permission to put a dessert order in (who goes to an old style soda shoppe n dosent get a sweet treat?) We ordered the brownie sundae which guess what? Contained NO brownie! At this point we were fed up and asked for the check.... FYI any complaints about the couple that did not tip tonight, hi this is us, and why.

Good food, nice atmosphere, decent price (on pizza and sandwiches but $11 for 5 chicken wings is robbery) sneaky fine print, terrible service, false advertisement. Certainly will not be returning here for this...

I was honestly very excited to find this place, as soda fountains are a favorite of mine. However .......this one was not.... great. The drinks (phosphates) were fine, the food was lackluster (but not tragic), ...but the real downfall was the staff. Well, let me rephrase that. Our waitress was great, very nice and friendly and overall pleasant. The guy behind the counter, however, really put the JERK in 'soda jerk'. The whole time we were in there he did nothing but rant. Loudly. Topics were as varied as how busy he was (He had 5 whole orders for ice cream.... at a soda fountain. Shocking, I know. ), how people keep ordering things that were on the menu but no longer actually available (????), and, my personal favorite, how much of an atheist he is. I'm not religious, in any sense of the word, but just from a professional stand point saying things like " jesus is a fictional character" is just uncalled for. Especially at the top of your lungs in a family friendly type establishment. Repeatedly. It was so ludicrous I only ate half my sandwich and then paid as soon as possible just to get out of there. The over the top tryhard atheism rants combined with just flat being mean to the waitresses was unbearable. Maybe on a day when he's not there or not... ranting about everything little thing, this place would be a quaint little soda shoppe. But I don't plan...

Me and my party of 6 were sat in the back room which is a little narrow and not the best area for claustrophobes but kind of cozy and efficient for the current COVID situation. It took about half an hour for a small basket of fried pickles and an hour for the rest of the food to arrive. The kids spaghetti wasn’t spaghetti but just pasta with tomato sauce on top and not so tasty. The pizza knots do not belong in the starter section of the menu, the portions are to big so by the time you finish them you are either too full to eat the main course or almost full. The knots were soggy on the bottom from the sauce but other than that the food was pretty good. The coffee kahlua milkshake was tasty, the milkshakes are somewhat a main attraction of this place. The ice cream was really good and would recommend saving space for. This place serves quick walk in lunch food but the serving time does not show it. The server with the blonde braided hair and the sleeve tattoo was good, asked a couple of times periodically if the food was good but at first gave the beers unopened with no bottle opener to open them which isn’t a bother. Overall, the food, ice cream, and milkshake saved the soda fountain from a 3 star, service was pretty good but the serving time and fried pickle portions were not so good which prevented a...
