El Molcajete Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Village of Plover

Wow! We were surprised to find this spacious place with many seating options available. We were sat immediately and our server had perfect timing to ask us for our drink order, and mentioned it was buy one get one free margaritas. I ordered a strawberry margarita with salt on the rim. It came in a heavy duty glass that was generously portioned. We were brought chips and salsa, and the salsa was delicous and chips were very crunchy. The menu was large and had all the classoc staples like street tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, plus authentic dishes like molcajete and choices like your taco cooking style being al pastor, etc. The kitchen staff were kind and talented, often carrying five or six plates at once up their arms and carrying five or six drinks too. The place filled up fast with family and friends and the music was exciting and atmosphere was festive and giddy. After kitchen staff delivered the food, our server was back to check that everything was ok. Then, we were given time to finish our generous portions and only when we had finished did the server ask us if we wanted the 2nd marg (it was free after all!) The 2nd one came out and it had sugar on the rim, which I thought was a nice touch. Brought us a box for the uneaten portion and demonstrated perfect service and especially remembering our orders, reorders, and giving us time to eat but immediately seating us and getting our drink order started. I was not expecting such a great spot, delicious food with large portions, and talented staff. The bathrooms were clean and upscale and the bar was very long and lower for a relaxed feel with 3 giant flatscreens showing different games, so a perfect sports bar spot. We visited this restaurant twice in a two week period. The first was a Wednesday, late afternoon. We arrived about 4:30 p.m. The restaurant was just starting to get busy. We were seated, given nachos and salsa; and menus. Our waiter took our drink order, when he returned we gave him our dinner order. That was the last we saw of him. Someone else brought our food and another person cleared our empty plates. My husband had a Mexican steak entree, I had the shrimp quesadilla. Both dishes were quite tasty, and the salsa bar had a nice variety of salsas. We waited 20 minutes for our bill, the restaurant was getting really busy, one would think they would want to turn the tables as quickly as possible. Finally the guy at the next table approached the owner for their bill, and mentioned that we had been waiting for ours as well. We received our bill, paid and left. Our next visit was on a Sunday afternoon, during a Packer game, so the restaurant was not very busy. We went with my step-daughter and her fiance. I ordered the shrimp tacos, my husband the Molcajete special, my step-daughter ordered the bacon cheeseburger and her fiance ordered a Mexican chicken entree. It took over 30 minutes to get our entrees, mine arriving last, 10 minutes after the others. My shrimp tacos were cold, mostly red cabbage and just very small pieces of shrimp. My step-daughter's bacon cheeseburger arrived without the bacon, onions, lettuce or tomatoes it was supposed to have. We finally flagged down our waiter, he apologized profusely and informed the kitchen. After another 10 minutes he brought out the rest of her burger entree, it had been sitting in the kitchen. There is potential for this to be a really good restaurant, but they do have some work to do. We probably won't go back for quite awhile, hopefully service...

I would like to give them less than one star, but I can’t. Their chips were completely on point…. That is the only positive in this review was OK. Cheese dip was just OK I asked for my three entrées with no red sauce at all or green sauce showed up with red sauce all of it want to use the restroom no toilet paper at all had big roll holders. No toilet paper not OK with me. I’ve been in the industry of serving for a hot minute. That sucks. I did obliging and decent about everything. Nothing was comped all in our meal ordered a regular size margarita motion for a 20 ounce whatever Did not get that got a smaller one we were charged full price for a whole entire meal even though they completely messed everything up. South manager was not in. I’m sure that one of them was the owner. If it wasn’t the owner should be on site. Come on now. I don’t normally take to Google reviews, but this is crap.
