Okome House – Fresh, Flavorful, and Worth Every Bite!
I had the pleasure of trying Okome House in Wake Forest, which just opened on January 28, 2025, and let me tell you — this place is a must-visit for sushi and hibachi lovers! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
Fresh, High-Quality Sushi & Flavorful Hibachi
The sushi was incredibly fresh, with high-quality fish that you don’t always expect from an all-you-can-eat spot. The Crazy Dragon Roll was a standout — perfectly balanced in flavor and texture, and truly delicious. On the hibachi side, both the steak and chicken were juicy, tender, and packed with flavor — definitely some of the better hibachi I’ve had in a while.
The Cheese Mussels Were a Showstopper
Now, let’s talk about the cheese mussels — OMG. I could have easily eaten three helpings of these rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying bites. I usually never forget to take food photos, but I got so caught up in the meal that I completely forgot — except for the mussels, which I did manage to snap a picture of and have added to this review!
Great Service & Something for Everyone
The service was fantastic — attentive, friendly, and quick to accommodate requests. Even my husband, who hates sushi, really enjoyed the gyoza and hibachi, so this place truly has something for everyone.
A Couple of Minor Downsides
I do have two small complaints:
No soy sauce on the table – You have to ask for a tsukemono (soy sauce dish/ramekin) if you need one, which feels like an unnecessary extra step. Also, if you love fresh ginger, you’ll need to keep requesting it since it doesn’t automatically come with each sushi plate.
Scallops aren’t listed on the menu – I was craving a spicy scallop hand roll or cut roll, but when I didn’t see it on the menu, I asked the sushi chef, and he told me they actually do have scallops — you just have to request them! If they have them available, I’d highly recommend adding them to the menu so more people know about this option.
Final Verdict: A 10/10 Experience!
Other than those small inconveniences, this place is a 10/10 for me! The fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and excellent service make Okome House a spot I’ll definitely be returning to. If you’re in the Wake Forest area and love sushi or hibachi, do yourself a favor and check...
Read moreI’m not one to post bad reviews, but I just had the worst experience at this place. We found a huge bug literally in our food, immediately called the waitress over, she saw the bug, tried to kill the bug that was hoping everywhere on our table. We for obvious reason got grossed out and lost our appetite. They gave us only a $5 discount, and then proceeded to call us liars, even though the waitress herself saw the bug on our plate and helped to try to kill it. (I want to express the waitress tried her best, especially with the language barrier, this is directed strictly towards management and the owner) I will NEVER be back to this establishment. It is very poorly managed. If I could rate it lower, I would. This place if continued to be ran this way will be out of business in less than a year. I will be contacting the health inspector because I can imagine there are more bugs than the one we did see in our food. Go ahead and check your cameras, one thing I’m not is a liar.
UPDATE this was not a flying bug, I’m not sure what kind of bug this was but it hopped and crawled but never flew. This bug was big, two to three times bigger than a fly. It hopped all over our table and food. We got grossed out, and lost our appetite. I don’t know where the bug came from, but facts is, it was found on our plate in our food. Your server saw this, and when tried to kill it that’s when it jumped (not flew) all over our table. We still paid $53 mind you. I work as a manager in a restaurant and I would never treat my customers how you treated us. I graduated with a Hospitality Management degree. I would never have handled this in the manor that you did and still are. $5 off and needing to go see and find the proof when your server literally saw it, and help to try to kill it is crazy. Responding back to my partner and now me in the way that you have is crazier. Your health score, the bug in our food, and how you and your staff reacted is very telling. I meant what I said, if y’all don’t change, this business will not be a business...
Read moreThis establishment is a modernized all you can eat sushi/hibachi style restaurant. The cost was $27.00 per person, and at that price I expected the food to be better. They do not have coveyer belts or self-service buffets. Instead, have small tablets on the table that you order from. Had I known the ins and outs of how this restaurant operated before I went, I would have taken everyone somewhere else, but in my ignorance, I took a group of 12 people here.
Positives: -The dining area was clean. -The employees were friendly. -The food was not bad, but also not great. -Small groups of 2 or 3 seemed to get good service. -The sushi was pretty good.
Negatives: -The hibachi was very salty & oddly flavored. -Be careful not to order something you don't like because they charge you for food you don't eat by the piece. .50 cents per piece I believe. -After putting in your order, you must flag down a server that puts in a code to finalize your order. -The amount of dishes you can order each time is limited. Because of this, our table was given 3 ordering tablets. -With our group, they had trouble bringing orders out to the correct people. -Three of the people with me did not receive their first order until the rest of us had gotten out 3rd. -Several of the dishes ordered never made it to the table. -Groups of 5 or more are automatically charged an 18% gratuity.
Conclusion I will not be returning to this establishment. If you want good sushi and hibachi, make the drive to Henderson, NC, and eat at Ichibar. I've been going there for years and have always gotten good service...
