Let me preface this by saying that me and my wife were both starving and in the mood for red sauce and pizza place stuff so we decided to drive a couple towns over to Napoli as we don't really like the pizza in our town and have heard good things about this place. We ordered a chicken parm grinder and calamari to split. They told us on the phone they didn't have tartar sauce. No big deal, we grabbed our $25 chicken parm grinder and calamari and went home.
The calamari tasted old, like fryer oil and well overcooked. They said they cleaned and floured up the squid by hand and made it there even though there were no tentacles just a container of the same sized rings (also for some folks that clean and make perfect squid rings exactly the same size they can't mix together some mayo, pickles and lemon juice for tartar sauce?). It tasted old, fishy and like it had been in the old oil about 10 min too long. The red sauce was very good.
The chicken parm grinder wasn't a cutlet but rather a cutlet that was chopped into chunks like cat food and put on a roll. The roll and the red sauce were good but the chicken itself tasted old and previously frozen. Also if it was a cutlet at one point why chop it up and not like leave it as a whole sandwich sized cutlet? Neither my wife nor I, hungry as we were, were prepared to choke it down.
I rarely call and complain about food bc even with the worst food we've ever ordered we can usually make do and eat enough to not make it a total loss. But with this stuff we were so disappointed we decided to call and see if we could just bring it all back for a refund or at least order something else that we felt like we could eat. The manager was not interested in hearing about any of it even when i suggested that I could bring it back with seriously two bites taken out of it. He curtly informed me that they had been there 50 years, everyone loves their food and I'm beat. My wife and I were told to suck it up and enjoy the lousy food bc even if we returned it uneaten we would not be offered a refund or replacement of any kind. The customer service is as awesome as the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had dinner last evening at Napoli Pizza & Restaurant. A welcome departure from the Italian restaurant I'd eaten at the night before. But that's covered in another review. Napoli Pizza has been serving up wonderful Sicilian & Neapolitan pizzas & Italian dishes since 1967. All under the direction of the same great family. Many thanks to them. Last night I had a bowl of Rhode Island clam chowder that easily ranks in the top three that I've ever had. A great flavor, without being too salty, but having a good ratio of clams to potatoes to celery, etc. It was a special last evening. I hope they make it a regular menu option. The spaghetti with sausage entree I had was preceded by a nice, warm, fresh, small loaf of Italian bread with butter. A small garden salad that had my preferred iceburg lettuce, sliced grape tomatoes, cucumbers, slices of radish, as well as black & green olives was the perfect lead in to my main dish. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked, with a sauce I've grown to know very well over the last 48 years I've been a patron here. Well seasoned, not thin and watery, but with just a hint of sweetness. The sausage, as always, was plentiful, cooked perfectly, and sliced on a bias, the way I think it should be. Wonderful. I purposely didn't finish my meal, so I could have dessert. There was plenty to bring home, even after eating about half. For dessert I asked for a slice of cheesecake. I asked my server if there might be some fruit to top it with. She said they had a strawberry glaze offered. "Sounds great!" The glaze came in a separate little china cup for me to top it with as I liked. Nice touch! The glaze absolutely made the difference! My server was a delight from beginning to end. So glad I went to Napoli...

We were there a few weeks ago and it was so good and we thought maybe this place was back on track so we decided to go again this week.
We get there and we can see the menus are shiny and new from the last visit which can only mean one thing....major price increase!
Ok, I'd pay more if the food was good.
My wife ordered Fettuccine Alfredo and I got my usual eggplant sub.
They brought her bread...I guess butter is extra now because it was no longer included.
The Alfredo was so thin and didn't even stick to the pasta. It was like pasta, milk and a little cheese. $20 for that.
My eggplant was ok...much less plentiful as last time... barely toasted. The last time was an absolutely mouthwatering sub. Not this time. $11
Glad to have a Foxon Park soda.
The waitress was a nice attentive young lady with the glasses. Points for her. I wish I had cash to make sure she got the full tip.
This is what frustrating about these places around here! Inconsistency! From visit to visit you don't know what you're going to get. If it's going to be a decent quality or not. My wife wanted to make food at home and I talked her into dining out. These days going to these places gets harder and harder for exactly this reason.
We'll see if we try this again any time soon. We noticed it was MUCH less busy than the last time. Maybe the word on the price increase and decline in quality is already...
