LET US EAT LETTUCE
Hoping for a nice FAther's Day lunch we met my husband's parents in downtown Walnut Creek. Stelle Bistro was closed without announcement. Katy's Kreek was so packed the area outside was saturated with people waiting. And then there we were, at Lettuce. I'd never been inside before but knew to expect the deli style atmosphere. Service is at a counter, rather than tableside. A large menu hangs on the wall but you can also look at the ingredients in front of you if you want to change or add something.
I ordered the Farmer's Salad and enjoyed asparagus, beets, mixed greens and croutons (ask for extra if you like croutons - they're big, but they're good, and I didn't get many to start). It was nicely dressed. The guy who prepared it for me was very friendly and made conversation as he worked.
My husband and his dad both had a BLT on focaccia. His dad added a corn chowder to his order, after reading "clam chowder" by accident. We were all surprised how little clam there was, until we looked at the menu again and realized our mistake. The sandwich was very good. I finished what he couldn't eat. There was an herbed mayo in the bread and the flavor really stood out. The bacon was crispy. It could have used an extra slice of tomato, but overall was really tasty!
Mom and her Mom fared the least well. Neither of them loving their dish. Mom had a salad that was somewhat overwhelmed by gorgonzola, making it just a little too bitter for her (and my) liking. There was a TON of avocado in it and I even ate some huge chunks of it in the couple bites I had. It was wonderful! My husband's grandmother ordered a small bowl of angelhair pasta. The chicken pieces in it were very dry so even though it had good flavor, it wasn't nearly as good as everyone else's dishes.
The bruschetta and garlic bread looked great but I wasn't about to pay that much extra for each piece. I think it was $3 and $1.50, respectively. I had water to drink (oh how I love the cucumber water!) and husband had a can of soda. Our table total was around $60. The food was really good but $10 is a lot for a bowl of salad that I was just about able to finish. A couple bites of it went home with me in my reuseable to-go container. :) But they didn't make it all...
Read moreRevising the review because honestly I come here a lot and they usually always hit the mark, I had one negative experience and I was so upset bc I really love the sandwiches and salads here so it was so sad to get a sad salad and sandwich.
I went again today because well after a hike I just crave Lettuce. It was the best! I got the SFO and Sonoma half & half combo - it really hit the spot, the presentation was beautiful, and the ingredients were soo fresh. So here’s 5 stars this place is truly my favorite spot for lunch, best sandwiches and salads all around!
Previous review was 1-star for a not so great experience here. The white girl (the shorter one) who works here makes a god awful sandwich and salad - avoid her service at all costs! She makes your food like she want you to hate the meal you just ordered - which I did. She used like the most broken piece of bread to make my sandwich and when I lifted it to eat my whole sandwich fell apart and some of the contents fell off the plate. Also she puts a heaping amount of dressing so my salad was totally soggy. I dine here every so often because it’s my favorite lunch spot in Walnut Creek and it’s usually pretty good but I had to call out this girl on her quality of work because it sucks. Pretty lame because the mexican/ indian looking girl who made my friends sandwich and salad did a bomb job while I got...
Read moreI love this place. It’s my go to healthy lunch spot. I just have to mention since it’s something that’s been pretty consistent almost every time that I’ve been there as kind of a voice of caution. You definitely need to check your bag if you’re doing a takeout they have every time left out utensils or napkins or even certain food items that I’ve ordered like a drink or a small pastry. I don’t check the bag until they give it to me because it’s stapled and then once I get in the car or worse yet get home I noticed things that are missing. I wish that you didn’t have to tell them to put utensils in a take out order but you do so just bear in mind that if you do need utensils you have to tell them because they will not put it in your bag I wish that they would change this because sometimes you just can’t remember to tell them to do so.
Aside from that one and only complete the food is fantastic it’s fresh it’s healthy the lady at the front who always answers the phone is so pleasant and nice I really do love that place I just wish that they would kind of up their game on checking their bags and making sure stuff is...
