The counterperson I encountered today was incompetent and rude. I'm tired of hearing about how service people have to put up with rude customers and no one seems to be talking about how customers have to put up with rude and incompetent service people, which is a very common problem these days.
Counterpersons in a Subway or similar store should be willing and able to answer questions while using their hands for something else. Its called multitasking. She was not using a knife or other cutting blade, she was simply using the cash register to ring up items. I was in customer service and food service for decades. It's not that hard if you bother to try. And its part of the job.
With one customer ready to check out in front of me (a simple ringing up of items, the customer was steadfastly silent, no questions of his own), I said "excuse me" to catch the attention of the counterperson who was apparently unwilling to look up from the counter to greet me (about 8 feet away) with a simple "hello" or "welcome to Subway". Not even a smile.
My attempt to catch her eye and ear was met with a scowl and scolding. I was briefly lectured on how she was busy with "this customer" and I have to wait my turn. In the time she took to scold me she could have answered my question about availability of a product (vegan loaf). It would have taken one or two words at most.
If a counterperson cannot bother to at least look up at a customer when they enter the store, cannot bother to smile or say hello, and is incapable of the very basic multitasking (of answering an easy question while ringing up a small order), then that person does not qualify for the job nor do they deserve it.
She needs to learn how to multitask, smile, and verbally greet customers, at the very least. An attitude adjustment might also help.
There are more than enough places to get fast food in the area. So I went elsewhere. I'm wondering if the owner of this Subway really cares about customers. Wondering how many other customers this young girl insulted and drove off. Is it worth...
Read moreOn 1-10-23 around 3:45pm I went into the Subway to order 2, foot-long, old-fashioned, Spicy Italians. I looked over the menu while the young man behind the counter did not acknowledge my presence even though the place was empty except for the two of us and he was busy making sandwiches for unseen customers to pick up.
I asked him if he was aware of the basic ingredients found in the OLD recipe for the Spicy Italian sandwich. He said: we HAVE spicy Italian sandwiches. And I asked what was on them. He said: pepperoni and salami; I said: No.
He heard me, yet kept talking over the top of me extolling the virtues of the sandwiches I had expressed I did NOT want VERY CLEARLY. I walked out in the middle of his crazy, self-absorbed, commercial monologue.
This particular subway continually hires the WORST customer service people I have ever encountered. I love Subway sandwiches, but not enough to put up with their terrible customer service. I am...
Read morefirst off..the employee with the scars and tattoos gave off a very bad vibe. He kept flirting with me and it wasn’t just friendly small talk. Keep in mind I’m 17 and he’s obviously way older...the sandwich was alright but he was too occupied talking to pay attention to my order and I didn’t realize it was messed up until I was on the road. All in all it was an uncomfortable experience and especially after telling him I was a minor he didn’t stop with the flirting. While he was ringing me up he asked the normal questions..would you like to add drink or chips? The usual. All I came in for a was a sandwich tho and then he was insisting on “helping me out” by offering me a drink or chips for free. I declined then he asked what kinda cookies I liked after I clearly told him I wasn’t interested. I’ve worked at subway for a few months and if that were to happen at the establishment I worked for you’d be fired or...
