Update: Recently they arbitrarily hiked their prices for rice dishes with the reason that the cost of rice had increased, and further, that the prices would go back to normal when the rice prices drop. Guess what? Rice prices dropped back, but their rice dishes stayed at the hiked price. This doesn't make me happy, not happy at all.
TL; DR: Excellent Biryani, Terrible Indo-Chinese.
First the good part: after another famous biryani restaurant in the area deprecated the quality of its food, we switched to Hyderabad House and love their biryanis.
Their veg dum biryani is VERY flavorful, comes in an adjustable spice level, and has generous portion sizes. I cannot yet comment on the consistency of this flavor since I've only ordered the biryani once and will update this review when I have more data points.
Their staff is also really great!
Ravi especially is really helpful and I hope the owners realize how huge an asset he is and give him a raise!!
Now the not so good part: their Indo-Chinese is by far one of the worst.
We ordered their veg manchurian starter, the hakka noodles and the schezwan fried rice.
Now, I've grown up in Mumbai and have had Indo-Chinese food on numerous occasions to be acutely familiar with the broad range of acceptable versions of the dishes I had ordered.
Our starter was good, and I quite enjoyed it.
The hakka noodles and the fried rice on the other hand were downright atrocious.
For starters it seemed like they had been cooked in ghee (clarified Indian butter) or some weird funky oil. Both my wife and I felt the same. This is HIGHLY UNUSUAL.
In my 20+ years of eating in India, NEVER have I come across a single instance of dairy being used in this Indo-Chinese cuisine.
To get a sense of how atypical this is: eating steak well-done with ketchup is more typical than cooking Indo-Chinese with dairy.
There was zero indication of this on the menu. I am allergic to dairy and this to me was a serious issue.
Regardless of whether it really was dairy or something that simulated dairy, the first bite I took made me gag and retch.
I will go back for biryani, but Indo-Chinese?...
