Butterworth’s is “love it or hate it,” when it comes to the food. Only a true philistine would take issue with the service or the atmosphere (or the coffee). But… the food. It’s polarizing.
We ordered coffee (cappuccino and an americano), the scotch egg and the crepes. Service was great, coffee was superb, and the vibe was, as the kids say, vibing. Then the food came out.
The scotch egg was made with a sausage (the menu doesn’t identify the protein, but most scotch eggs are made with a breakfast sausage of some kind, so it’s a safe bet) and it comes alongside a pepper/onion/garlic garnish, all sitting on top of hollandaise sauce. The sausage was 4/5 gamey, the pepper garnish was solid, and the hollandaise… wasn’t. The sauce was something like hollandaise’s jazzy cousin.
The crepes come with some fruit and maple syrup. But, the crepes came out somewhat rubbery, topped with what I can only describe as “experimental figs,” and the maple syrup was… salty?
But, here’s the thing: Even though I borderline hated the food, I think this is exactly what some people are into. When I bit into the scotch egg and thought, “Wtf, is that sausage made with goat?” Someone else will likely say, “Oh, wow. How unique! I love it.” When I almost gagged on the fig and spat it out, I had the distinct impression that it was probably someone’s favorite addition to the crepes.
Here’s what I will say: This place is worth trying, especially if you’re local - you might love it. But, I think the expectation should be: An artful, lovingly crafted, creative interpretation of your favorite food. That kind of experience is not for everyone. But, it is EXACTLY what some people...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews but felt this needed one. Really unimpressive. I was so looking forward to taking my family here for a special breakfast in December before Christmas after seeing a very catchy IG post. I was disappointed on arriving at 9:30am for breakfast. The place was empty, dark and had zero atmosphere. The hostess could not find our reservation and said she "doesn't use the open table platform." The place was empty and we prob could have sat anywhere but she made us wait until she figured it out. She eventually found it and sat us but did not bring us any water. We had to go get it ourselves. We ordered a cinnamon roll for our girls to split. It was pretty tiny. (Smaller than a Cinnabon, but it tasted alright). I got the smoked salmon with capers and my husband got Eggs for Alex which supposedly had 3 eggs. The portion sizes were very small (eggs seemed more like 1 or 2 for the size that came out) and we left still feeling hungry. The food came out fairly quickly on pretty plates, which is prob the only bright side of the experience. I also ordered a Vienna coffee, which is supposed to be whipped cream infused espresso with whipped cream replacing the milk. It came out in a teacup 1/4 filled with espresso and a dollop of whipped cream - so like 2 sips. I then had to ask for sugar as there was nothing on the table. Wish we had gone to Tatte or Bluestone Lane for a cozier vibe and more filling, yummy food. Don't recommend this place for breakfast. Can't speak to lunch/dinner - maybe the vibe improves...

Why does that matter? Well generally because Republicans are anti working class - shifting more and more taxes from the rich to the working class. And the working class can't afford to uphold an entire govt - the rich can - but don't want to and now they don't have to. And the working class can't. So cuts is what you get.
If you like those people here they are! Happily emptying the pockets of the poor while spending it on.. I guess you can call it food. At least that's what the other reviewers seem to sum it up as "it's food. Not good food. But food". So there's also that suminiation.
Oh and the art. I don't know if they are seriously thinking it's good art or it's like the food - it's supposed to be tacky and bad. You've all seen the food - well here's some art now.
It's not bad. But it's definitely not good. It just is. There's lamb tartare paired with onion rings. It's what a rich person thinks food should be who was never raised actually cooking it.
I mean tartare is supposed to be cold. It is cold. To pair it with cooked food isn't just basically a violation of basic cooking, it's just lazy and very "dive bar owner wants to try gourmet cooking".
Luckily the clientele aren't very classy and won't...
