The service was good. However, it appears that the staff allows disrespectful behavior from certain customers, especially those who are perceived as "big spenders." I came here for the first time to celebrate a friend's doctoral accomplishment, only to be met with unprovoked disrespect by a man who called himself "Johnny Cash." After I made a harmless comment about his nickname resembling the country singer, he responded with hostility. Insinuating that the money they spend should allow for disrespectful language and being called out of one's name. Security was informed about this incident, as well as complaints by other women from the same man who made additional disrespectful comments. Security stated that because we were not physically harmed, there was nothing they could do despite the unprovoked hostility. If this is the type of environment that the establishment promotes, then I would not recommend this place. It does not help that there were racial power differentials at hand, and as a minority, I do not feel welcomed. I do suggest that security at least correct this behavior by issuing warnings before saying that there is nothing they can do. Feel free to reach out to me for...
Read moreI celebrated my birthday last night at Ciel in Capitol Hill and it was such a beautiful experience. From the moment you step off the elevator, you're greeted by gorgeous flowers and a really warm atmosphere.
Toya, the hostess, was amazing. She was so kind and welcoming, and always around to answer any questions. Honestly just a beautiful presence right when you arrive. Ash, the manager, also stood out, super helpful and even gave us some ideas for photo prompts, which was such a nice touch.
The DJ was great and kept the energy up all night. The service was a little slow and there were a few minor mistakes, but the staff was friendly and the food was really good, so it balanced out.
Overall, I had such a fun night. Ciel made my birthday feel really special and I’d...
Read moreNice roof; abysmal service and messy atmosphere. Came for celebratory drinks/meal with friends with an outdoor reservation. Do not bother sitting outside if you don't like pot smoke and an obnoxiously loud DJ. This is NOT a place for a relaxing, classy evening with DC city views. And be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait for your drinks and food -- both of which are a tremendous improvement over the bizarre concept that was here before, but still not worth it. For a place with several weeks under its belt, ever single staffer (from host to server to manager) felt clueless and like it was their first day. The Morrow Hotel has an exponentially better rooftop without the hassles just a few blocks away. I hope Marriott fixes Ciel; it has potential but needs some...
