Food was good -- great hamburger, though, the ones at the Clyde's in Bethesda are cooked better (and slightly less expensive). Main issue was a nice but not well-trained waiter (I tip on service, not how friendly someone is...I used to be in the business). First, I had to make my own iced hibiscus tea: the waiter brought out a cup of hot water, a tea bag, and a glass of ice. He should have made it in the kitchen himself -- well, let's start with he should have KNOWN HOW to make it at all -- because pouring the hot tea cup into the glass filled with ice at the table, which has to be done quickly in an attempt not to spill everywhere, caused a fair amount of hot, pink-tinted water to spill down onto the cloth-covered table. Also, you must put a piece of metal silverware into the tall glass to absorb the heat from the piping hot water so the thin glass doesn't break, and, for some reason, having no spoon, I used my knife and then had to wipe it off with my cloth napkin, another "no no"...waiter should have brought a spoon with the drink I had to mix myself, whether or not he knew I already had one because the other one might have been used with, say, soup (hadn't yet placed the meal order). I caught his attention and asked for a spoon, which took 10 full minutes to arrive...needed to stir in sweetener so I could begin enjoying my beverage...a little ticked it took so long. Later, when I ordered a cappuccino after the meal, I noticed my spoon, and all my other used silverware, had been lifted when the waiter cleared the table, yet he didn't bring me another one with my cappuccino, resulting in yet another delay before enjoying another beverage after adding sweetener. Then, after finishing half of my cappuccino, which began to cool greatly while waiting nearly 20 minutes for the dessert that should have been served timely with it, the cheesecake finally arrived... a simple slice of cheesecake -- after half of my cappuccino was gone and cooling...of course, there are no free refills on cappuccino, only regular coffee. Would have really been nice to have had my dessert to eat with a full cappuccino -- they should have been served at the same time and not so very delayed. The service was a "fail."
Having been a professional server myself in an upscale hotel, fine-dining restaurant decades ago -- tuxedo uniform, presenting live lobsters on massive silver trays for patrons to choose their meal preference...not my favorite part of the job -- the training (and, possibly, common sense) is lacking, and there needs to be better supervision and guidance for better service. The food was worth the experience, but if there's ever a next time at the Georgetown Clyde's, I'll aim for a different...
Read moreSecond visit, It has been awhile. It has been years since we last had a meal here. This visit was a lunch on a Monday, June 2018. We sat in a booth near the front entrance, will not do that again, can be a little disruptive as poeple shuffle in off M street wait, sneeze, mill around... while they wait to be seated. The interior is a big sell for me/us lots of wood and has a comfortable pub atmosphere, see pics. The restaurant was only moderately busy. We were greeted promply and ordered one of the drink specials, watermelon margaritas. They were light and refreshing, however they were too heavy on the ice and light on the tequila. (Will not order again). Ordered a Guinness promply after half the margarita was consumed. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip appetizer. Overly salty and a small portion. Cannot recommend this as well. It appears a trend is forming along the line of under-value portion size. My travel companion ordered the falafel which was very good, warm and ingredients complimented each other. The portion was reasonable and this would be reordered if we return. I ordered the strawberry pistachio salad with grilled chicken. I very much enjoyed the fruit and nut sweet and slightly salty tones. Ingedients were fresh and the portion was reasonable. For dessert, their bread pudding offering. The presentation was visually pleasing (see pic). The texture was a custard like smooth texture which I do not prefer. The pudding itsrlf was slightly bland, I enjoy stronger vanilla and spice tones and a rough bread-like composition. The ice cream was homemade, sweet and had a very good texture on the palate. The restroom was clean, however, I did not see any paper towels as an alternative to the ever-growing popular germ blower. The service was strong upfront but waned toward the end. Cheers! Read moreA few of my friends and myself decided to take a trip from FXBG to this location and the service I received was abysmal. We went Saturday 7/20 and was served by Bryson M. However, I would use the term "served" very loosely, as during our hour or so visit I saw Bryson maybe 4 times (Original drink order, food order, to drop the food off, and lastly when I requested the check). I was only approached about ordering a drink when I sat down and was never asked if I needed another one, I requested ice and was not provided with it, along with asking for a straw, which was also (you guessed it) not provided. The absolute abysmal service was further exemplified when, at the end of our meal, I asked Bryson why I hadn't been offered a drink, dessert, water, or checked on the whole time we dined. To which Bryson stated, and I quote "It's been very busy". Which the restaurant was busy, synonymous to a Saturday night. However, Bryson neglected to realize that we were in the direct crossroads of the back area, kitchen, and bar. Which further contributed to my disdain as he had to pass by our table multiple times and neglected to give us the time of the day. Furthermore, the "I was busy excuse" might've worked, had I not seen Bryson leaning against the bar not even 10 feet away from my table for a solid 5-8 minutes.
Along with the above, when I requested the check be split, that was not done properly. That is neither here nor there, however my experience was lackluster, which is unfortunate.
I cannot speak for everyone else's meal, but if it is a reflection of mine I can guess how it was. The steak was overly salted and not reflective of the price that was listed...
