Every bit of 5 Stars. Easily the Best Breakfast we've had in some time...all with a simply wonderful combination of Turkish flavors & ambiance.
We ordered the East-West Breakfast (which came with a Turkish Coffee), Menemen, and a Latte, and from the moment my East West Breakfast hit our table, we knew we were going to be in for a treat. Home-made jam, amazing honey, various tender cheeses, warm bread, delicious eggs, wonderful olives, bright tomatoes, cucumbers, olive oil, and even Turkish coffee with a surprise Turkish Delight to-boot (and this was the smaller "1-person" breakfast!).
From the moment we tried the jam and the delicious Menemen (ordered separately), my (Persian) wife's eyes lit up and I could tell she was immediately transported home to Maman Bozorg (Grandma). My better-half even pulled our delightful server aside to ask if they were "hiding a bunch of Turkish Grandma's in the back, making each dish with love?" "All of our food tastes like that," she replied with a bit of a proud grin.
Our server was accessible and attentive, but not overbearing, and quite patient with our questions, and the gentlemen who brought out our latte & meals (and kept my ever-emptying water glass full) carried himself with such a calm, quiet, and warm demeanor that we I think we'd've felt just as at-home if he just sat down to join us.
If the meal were twice the price; we still would have left absolutely delighted, but at this price we'll see you again very soon. At just 12 minutes from Bethesda, you can be sure we'll be back any time that we wish to be transported to Turkey but don't have time for the flight from DC.
Thank you for a delightful morning. We're already recruiting friends so that we can come back to try the full Turkish Breakfast and sample more...
Read moreUnfortunately, I had to update my old rewiev. But I'll put my old rewievs as a screenshot s maybe owners will get my point.
Since they opened the restaurant it has been a place I always order from and go to because it is good food and close to my home.
Seems like after the kitchen staff and manager changed, the quality and taste of the food changed completely.
As we were getting ready to get up after eating our meal yesterday, the person who claimed to be the manager asked our opinion and I told him that I thought the old version of the food was better. But he said to me, "Nothing has changed, it's your problem to not understand the difference" :) Also he claimed it's not Turkish food it's Greek there. And i confused because it says "so Turkish" I know there are lots of international food in their menu but I'm talking about those Turkish dishes.
It's unprofessional after you ask an opinion to a costumer and then telling them that they are wrong and they have no idea about food. Just say "ok sorry for your experience hope you'll like it next time" and done. Which I wasn't even gonna say something if he would not ask. I'd just pay and leave. It was an unnecessary and disturbing conversation between a manager and a costumer.

Read moreEast West Cafe is an excellent addition to the Tenleytown neighborhood. On our first visit, we tried their tasting menu which is $70/person. It was a lot of food and a great introduction to the menu. Their meats are well spiced and cooked in what looks like a brick oven. We had the adana kebab, kofte, and chicken and all were great so I don't think you could go wrong with any of the meat courses. Our favorite meze was the muhammara and we loved a salad we had with pomegranates (can't remember the name). We ended dinner with a pistachio baklava and a turkish tea, and both were excellent. I am sure their brunch is great so I will have to try that soon. One tip, if you are visiting in the winter, is to sit further back from the entrance. It is a bit drafty at the front which the staff try to mitigate with space heaters. It didn't bother us much but I would probably sit toward the back next time. All that being said, they do have comfy chairs both inside and outside so I look forward to hanging out on their patio when the...
