Unfortunately this place was a miss for me. The restaurant is cute but it is really hot inside, I saw a few people breaking fans out of their purses to try and keep cool. I don’t think the AC works but it really needs too, especially if you’re going to seat people 10 feet from an open kitchen. By the time I left I was very sweaty and uncomfortable and the 85 degree day outside felt nice by comparison. The service (for which there is a 20% auto gratuity) is really poor. I was sat quickly but it took a really long time for any of the servers to acknowledge me and when one finally did he gave me water and said he’d be back later. After another long stretch of waiting before he came to take my order. I ordered the steak au poivre burger, fries, and a glass of wine. About 15 minutes later the food came out but my wine didn’t. I asked the server who brought my food out about it and she said she’d check. I waited a bit but decided to go ahead and eat and was part way through my food by the time my glass of wine finally arrived. Drinks should really come out within a few minutes of being ordered. The burger itself was okay, it tasted average. However, it’s quite small and considering the burgers don’t come with anything, the starting price for a burger and fries here is $20 and that’s if you get the house burger, the price only goes up from there. I also kind of expected better bread for it than what looked and tasted like a grocery store potato bun. The fries were cooked well but needed salt and the wine was nice but it was a rather small pour. When I asked for my check the server handed me the card reader with the total instead of the itemized version so I could review the bill, only the total was about double what it should have been. I then asked to see the itemized bill and saw that he charged me for a bottle of wine and not a glass and that is also when I saw that a 20% gratuity was already charged. He didn’t mention that gratuity is already factored in, which all servers should when dropping the bill if that is the case. The bill was fixed, I paid and was prompted on the screen to add a tip despite one already being charged. Overall, this place was a disappointment; the food was okay, not great and expensive for what it was; the service was bad; and it’s incredibly uncomfortable to sit inside. I wouldn’t eat here again, there’s a load of burger places and French restaurants in Georgetown alone where I’ve had better...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining here. It was one of the places that was recommended to me by my son. I was a solo diner on this evening. This was a Friday night so the house was packed. The gentleman who was directing the traffic in the front of the house went out of his way to make me feel valued and comfortable on such a busy night. I later learned that he is also the owner. After seating me he came over and inquired if I were visiting the area and where I was from. Upon learning that I was from New Orleans he said that a member of his staff has a home there. Shortly afterwards I was approached by that staff member a true delight to speak with. We talked about where her home was located, and the culinary scene in New Orleans how it differs from other places. My server Liv was equally as polite. She did a great job at keeping an eye on my table and timing her service so that I did not feel rushed in anyway. My interactions here with all of the staff left me feeling that I welcomed and valued as a patron.
Now for the food absolutely nothing bad to report here either. I was torn between to burgers on the menu. I went with the name sake burger LBV Classique Burger and an order of the Pommes Frites.
When the Pommes Frites came to the table I knew I was in trouble. I am a Pommes Frites snob. I like mine to be crispy on the outside and pillowy soft inside. These were prefect. One of my other criteria is how are they seasoned. It is a bad thing if I need to add salt to them. These I am happy to report need nothing added to them. After this perfect start I was hoping that it was not all down hill from here. It wasn’t.
My LBV Classique Burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, cheesy, delight. The red onions and those outstanding pickles just added to the party.
In summary the care that they show you upon entering the restaurant shines on through the rest of the meal. I felt valued at a customer and was served a really great meal.
Yes I would eat here again and again. I am even thinking about going back to try the other burger that I was considering the Boeuf Bourguignonne Burger or maybe something else from their menu.
If you’re in the Georgetown area and in the mood for a really good burger and Pommes frites give this place a try. If it’s a busy night like it was when I visited don’t let a wait for a table deter you from a great meal prepared and served by a great staff and owner who take pride in...
Read moreLa Bonne Vache has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants ever! There are many reasons why I love this restaurant, one is because of the menu. Every time I’ve gone, I’ve tried something different. Which is really exciting and rare to me because often times I’ll find one or two items on a menu at a restaurant that I like, but it’s rare that every time I go, I’m looking forward to trying a different dish. I think this is a really exciting thing with restaurants when you end up trying majority of the menu and then when you go back on future occasions, you know exactly what you’re in the mood for.
Second reason I love this restaurant is the charm and ambience. It is this tiny little restaurant that you feel tucked away in and cozy. The decorations have so much character to them and it feels like such an understated experience eating there.
Third, the service is amazing. Often times you have to wait for a table but the team is amazing and kind and lovely to chat with while you wait. One evening I met the owner, and she was amazing. It was so delightful to chat with her a bit while we were in line.
The menu: the burgers are amazing. They are not even close to a typical American burger. The toppings are different and unique. Three noteworthy burger 1) French onion (great flavors, not overpowering), 2) LBV classic (simple and delicious), 3) beef bourguinon (rich and decadent). Appetizers: steak tartare (my boyfriend hadn’t met a steak tartare he enjoyed until this one - he LOVED it), escargot, mussels. Can’t go wrong with any of them. And the Gruyère fries were delicious. They were the classiest cheese fries I’ve ever had. Dessert: the chocolate moose changed my life. Light, rich, and smooth.
Highly recommend this restaurant!! I go often with friends and loved ones and am delighted...
