Let me start by saying you should ask for the automatic gratuity to be removed if your service and food didn’t match the charges being imposed. It’s my understanding that mandatory gratuity May or may not go to the server. I get people don’t tip but auto gratuity on a table of 2 with mid food isn’t cool. This explains the managers responses in other reviews and lack of action (clearly) in properly training the staff or making sure the restaurants food is on point, but I digress.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get into the food
Food I ordered a Caesar salad and shrimp tacos. The salad had a lot of browning lettuce in it, of which I told the waitress. Her response, I’ll make the kitchen aware of this. How about ask them to open another pack of that Costco salad and make me another for my $12. Great Customer service costs you nothing and will be reflected in your tip. But with this auto gratuity stunt they’re pulling I can see why she didn’t offer that. I picked most of it out and left it on a napkin that I then placed back on my salad plate.
Presentation of the food was nice but don’t be fooled. My shrimp were definitely cooked yesterday or earlier that day (and I mean way earlier). We got there at the time they opened, around 2p. No reason why my tacos were COLD, my corn tortilla was cold and CHEWY, and my shrimp were dry. I took a pic. The person with me had chicken tacos and said her corn tortillas were dry and chewy. Neither of us wanted to say anything to each other and agreed once brought up. Informed the waitress. Her response, I’ll let the kitchen know. No, how about you either Comp one of these $14, 2 tacos entrees or bring a free dessert? HOW ARE THEY TRAINING STAFF HERE??!!! No blame to the waitress, she is only doing what she either has been trained or knows.
Food was a mess, but the guacamole was good. Hold this pomegranate seeds, super unnecessary. You don’t have to dress it up bc of the price, we know what we’re spending isn’t worth the portion, friend.
ASTHETICS The restaurant itself is at the top of the Moxy with great views and very cute. Definitely a spot for IG pics only. I would only recommend drinks here (and that’s a reach). The food is overpriced. Small portions and extremely mid, if that.
SERVICE Read all the other 1-2 star reviews. Folks aren’t lying and I’ll leave it at that. The part that’s insane to me is management is reading these and STILL not making sure their staff is trained. Replace anyone who isn’t falling in line bc one thing I can tell you for certain, is DC isn’t Atlanta. We don’t GAF how cute your spot is. We’ll put you out of business ASAP if customer service isn’t right and especially if food isn’t right. BOTH is a problem at this place and they just opened this summer. They try to throw a little DJ in the spot and you better thank him a million times over bc he/she is the ONLY reason folks still coming. Check the reviews, I don’t have to lie. Give that man a raise while you’re still in that location.
Final words. Step it up immediately. As much as I hate to say this, right now you’re operating akin to garbage wrapped in a Gucci belt. You can do MUCH better.
Grab drinks here (if that, I’d recommend only pictures) , hold the food, head to Eaton’s rooftop up the street which will definitely be worth your time and money.
Signed, a frustrated customer who doesn’t like to waste his/her hard...
Read moreI had a reservation for a birthday dinner party of nine at this restaurant, which I made about two weeks in advance. I specifically reserved outdoor seating, but when we arrived, it had rained earlier and they had not taken the time to cover or dry the outdoor seating area. As a result, there was nowhere for us to sit.
What followed was over an hour of confusion while the staff tried to figure out how to accommodate us. At one point, they suggested that we simply sit on the soaking wet cushions — something no one in our party wanted to do. It felt like we were inconveniencing them by expecting the reservation I made and confirmed to be honored.
The server assigned to our table was visibly frustrated throughout the evening. She rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed, and seemed genuinely upset every time we asked for anything, even basic service. It was incredibly disappointing to have to fight to get two dry tables pushed together with dry chairs, when this should have been handled before we even arrived.
What made it even worse was the overall energy of the server. Her attitude brought down the entire experience, which was heartbreaking because the vibe of the restaurant itself is actually really good — the music was fantastic, and the atmosphere had so much potential. I truly wanted to love this place, but the service just didn’t match the setting.
To add insult to injury, a friend of mine who works with a liquor company had called ahead to arrange a complimentary birthday dessert for me. When we asked about it, the server argued with us about providing the dessert, rather than just checking or handling it with grace. It felt like we were being a burden the entire night.
All in all, while the location, vibe, and music were great, the disorganization and extremely poor service ruined what should have been a special and memorable birthday dinner. I sincerely hope the management addresses these issues because this place could be amazing if the service matched...
Read moreI would not recommend this spot. Waited for up to 15 minutes in a useless “line” even though there was literally no one there and no one came over to get us up to the rooftop and have me seated. I had to go over to parlor Victoria and hunt down the manager to let us up to the rooftop, which was absolutely ridiculous. No one at the bar downstairs tries to to help me when I was trying to get to the rooftop. Upon arriving at the rooftop, we were coldly greeted by the bartender, who just seem to be very annoyed and not very friendly. He told us the kitchen was close which the kitchen would have been open if they got me up to the rooftop in an appropriate time frame given that it was a Monday night, and there was no line, however, he was just cold for the rest of the night , not very helpful, proceeded to charge me for a drink that I did not order at the end of the night. Maybe he thought I was too drunk so I wouldn’t notice. When I pointed out the mistake to him, he just became angry.. came over, took my credit card and came back with a new receipt after I had already paid for the previous one. This “mistake. “likely happened because he did not give me my receipt before I paid. I had to ask him if he refunded me for the previous charge, which he responded “Of course I did” But he literally did not say one word to me as all of this was happening? Was I supposed to guess? I don’t really know what I could’ve done to make this bartender read so frustrated on a monday night but the entire atmosphere was just cold and I just don’t recommend it to young black women. It just wasn’t a great experience. There are much much much better bars in the DC area. If you want to drink and a good vibe, go to the L’Ardente bar in DC. This is going to be a hard...
