Thoroughly disappointed....
Fairness in reviews such as these offer interested patrons a fair 3rd party assessment of their experience. This is my experience...
We decided to dine with Morton’s for the first time last night as it was closely chosen over two other steakhouse options within the DC Metro area. We went to Morton’s off personal referrals. We were told it was an excellent steakhouse, and offered wonderful service. Mind you, it was our first time dining with Morton’s. So, we were unfamiliar with the menu options. Also, let me set the tone here to say I am one that believes that if you have a debit card, or cash in hand, it shouldn’t matter what you look like...but, this may just be the business mindedness of me. Anyway, we were snubbed for about 10 minutes before being greeted by our server. She was fairly pleasant, and I had to make myself clear several times that we had never dined here. I was dining here with my girlfriend and mother on short holiday. Both of them enjoy steak, but she (girlfriend) is very picky as to how she likes it cooked. The server was mostly accommodating to this. So at this point, the experience wasn’t hateful. Then we enjoyed a nice conversation as we waited...I convinced the group and I it was going to be well worth the wait....being that it was about 45 minutes after being served our horderves.
I legitimately thought this would be the best steak I had the opportunity in eating. Luckily I’m not a weatherman, or stock broker because my logic was far from the truth. Other than the steak tasting bland, and unnecessarily charred, this Ribeye had no noticeable marbling. I was honestly pretty disappointed, and the others in my party were pretty unenthusiastic about their options as well (2 filets). We chose 3 sharing sides...these were probably the best part of the meal. Then what took the cake here was not only the obnoxious alcohol/desert sales-pitch our server gave...but the way we were treated when my girlfriends debit card was geo-blocked because we were visiting as I mentioned. The server began getting hostile, inpatient, and refused to give her more than a second to simply unlock her banking app to validate the transaction. Then...wouldn’t you know! She runs the card and it goes through no problem at all! Now! She is as chirper as possible, knowing her tip hangs in the balance.
No hard drinks, stuck with water. Final bill, $245. My group and I are all foodies, and I would gladly drop twice that on a Michelin Starred restaurant where you experience a well rounded culinary experience. I did not get a lick of that here. $245 gets me about 8 free ranged, organic steaks from my local butchery, and it also gets me a lot more smiling faces. Will not be back. This is a review, and it is purely opinion. But take it with caution if you are looking to dine here with exceedingly high...
Read moreThis by far was one of THE most worst dinner experiences I have ever had. I had hosted my boyfriends birthday dinner there on July 12th, along with our friends. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host and one of the managers, Tia. Our 7pm reservation was ready and we were sat within 5 mins. Kit, our server came and also welcomed us in. Within 20 minutes of us being seated-we were served stale bread, we had ordered and received our cocktails, and were waiting for our appetizers (3 salads, one lobster soup, one order of bacon wrapped scallops, and an order of wagyu meatballs) It took another 20 minutes before we got anything, and once we did the scallops had to get sent back because they were burnt and overcooked. When the scallops come the second time, they are decent but my friend was not impressed. After about 15 mins, our server came around to take our food order, which clearly the kitchen was not ready for. So of course, 7 of us orders some type of filet or steak, and then there was one order of pork chops. About 25 mins go past, and I ask our server about our food. He says that he will check on it and come back. A few mins go by and another manager, Jeff, lets us know that the kitchen was having problems with the printer so orders were backed up. Another 15 mins go past. At this point, my entire party is irritable and hungry. Again our server comes over, reassuring us that our food will be out soon, only for us to wait another 10 mins before actually being served our entrees. Long story short, 5 of the ordered steaks had to be sent back 3x's due to the meat being undercooked and burnt (four filets and 1 ribeye). My boyfriend was so turned off he ended up ordering the Salmon (7/10), which came out right the first time. We had also ordered several sides (5/10), but the only thing that turned out bad was an order of brussel sprouts. In the midst of all this back and forth with the steaks, both managers Jeff and Tia, supplied us with complimentary treats and ensured that our meal would have some type of compensation. Our server, Kit, also continued to be attentive throughout our dining experience and very apologetic. The icing on the cake was when the bill came. They had discounted the check with the complimentary items still listed. After almost 30 mins of back and forth with the bill, we finally settled a little bit after closing. THE KITCHEN HAS TO DO BETTER. The constant mistakes took up a lot of our dining experience, and personally turned me and my friends off. Again shout out to the managers on duty, they did what they could to expedite our food and keep us happy. Ask for Kit on...
Read moreErnie,
We visited Morton’s on the evening of 6/30/21 to have a goodbye dinner for a friend leaving the area.
We were greeted promptly and seated promptly despite not having our entire party present. Since we had a straggler who would be much later we went ahead and ordered some salads, steaks, and sides. This is where issues arose as the steaks crashed into the salads, completely cutting off the enjoyment.
My steak was way over cooked - one end was practically black and almost entirely grey inside on that end, and the rest was medium despite ordering MR. I had cut into it numerous places to check doneness just to make sure it wasn’t just a small overcooked portion. When I cut around the steak, I didn’t notice silver skin and stringy fat (it was a cajun ribeye). In stark contrast the new steak was nearly all gristle and fat, and it was undercooked. I politely asked the server if my sides could be returned, and she indicated the cook threw away the sides that were on my plate. They were not replaced which meant I did not get any of one of the sides. Not wanting to push any harder or send a second steak back, I said nothing more and continued to saw and tear at the unyielding sinew on my plate. When you came to check to see if this steak was okay I told you I couldn’t cut it and you said and did nothing.
Finally, after our straggler’s steak came out butterflied for no apparent reason, he called you over and proceeded to sternly outline how unacceptable the product was, citing my frustration also.
When I go out for a nice steak (this was the first time in more than a year) I don’t want credit on my bill. I want a great steak. This experience was absolutely unacceptable. I’m beginning to suspect that this location thinks quality is unimportant because the majority of its business comes from lunch/dinner meetings. These patrons know they are there to talk and the food is just a prop.
Be more than...
