What a find! I was looking for a fun spot on a Wednesday night and Recessions delivered one of the most memorable nights I've had in DC. The karaoke here is top-tier. The energy was electric, with a friendly crowd singing great songs and genuinely enjoying themselves. It's exactly the kind of fun, welcoming vibe you look for in a local bar. On top of the amazing karaoke, they have pool tables for a great change of pace. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Muhammad, and played a friendly game of pool against him. He was incredibly gracious and made me feel right at home. As if the night couldn't get any better, he gave me a 15% discount coupon for my next visit! That's the kind of hospitality that creates loyal customers. This is without a doubt a go-to spot for karaoke in the city. I'll be back soon!

After work, we decided to stop by Recession for their happy hour. Tucked away in a basement reminiscent of an old speakeasy, the ambiance immediately sets the tone for a unique experience. We opted to sit at the bar and were promptly greeted by the friendly staff. Although the draft beer selection is limited, it still offers a quality range to satisfy different tastes. The standout feature here is the unbeatable happy hour pricing, with a generous 28oz beer available for just $9. While we didn't sample the food on this visit, we were pleasantly surprised by the lively atmosphere, complete with nightly karaoke and pool tables. For those seeking a fun, relaxed spot to unwind with colleagues after a long day, Recession is a fantastic choice for happy hour.

My fiancé and I travel all over to find some of the best karaoke spots and this is definitely it in the Washington DC area! Very welcoming diverse crowd! The drinks were all decently priced and they have pretty good bar food and song selections. If you love karaoke like we do definitely come out! by the way check out my TikTok 😉 @alwaysanyeri

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Recessions Bar and Grill, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly made me feel at ease.

The staff at Recessions Bar and Grill are true professionals, providing excellent service with a smile. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure my dining experience was nothing short of fantastic. Whether I had questions about the menu or needed recommendations, they were always there to assist me.

Speaking of the menu, it was a delightful journey for my taste buds. Recessions offers a diverse range of culinary options that cater to all palates. From delectable appetizers to mouthwatering entrees, each dish was prepared with precision and attention to detail. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was simply impeccable.

The drink selection at Recessions Bar and Grill is also worth mentioning. Their bartenders are skilled mixologists, concocting a wide array of innovative and classic cocktails. Whether you prefer a refreshing mojito or a perfectly crafted Old Fashioned, they have something to satisfy every craving. Additionally, their beer and wine selections were impressive, showcasing a variety of local and international options.

What truly sets Recessions apart is their commitment to creating a vibrant and enjoyable ambiance. The bar area is lively, and the live music performances add an extra layer of entertainment. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a long day or enjoy a night out with friends, Recessions provides the perfect setting to relax and have a great time.

I must also commend the cleanliness and hygiene standards maintained by Recessions Bar and Grill. It’s evident that they prioritize the well-being of their patrons, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for everyone.

In conclusion, Recessions Bar and Grill is a hidden gem that I highly recommend to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. The combination of exceptional service, delectable food, delightful drinks, and a lively atmosphere make it a must-visit destination. I can’t wait to return and indulge in their culinary delights once again....

This place should've just stayed close after the pandemic happened.

Went there with a bunch of friends for karaoke. Everything was fine and we were all having a great time, until this one woman grabbed the mic and scolded our friends saying:

"I know you guys are not regulars, but we don't bring drinks to the dance floor."

Now if she had just asked nicely if we could not have our drinks with us on the dance floor, then we would have obliged... but the fact that she had the audacity to get on the mic and say that to us as if she was scolding us? Not ok.

I think she felt empowered to say this to us on the mic because: 1) she's obliterated 2) she just got engaged (one of her other friend approached us and told us she just got engaged -- as if that excuses her trashy behavior) 3) she's friend with one of the staff (white guy that took our karaoke request slip before the KJ got there was in her group and proceeded to give us the death stare when he noticed that we were not gonna take her attitude).

After this, she proceeded to shrill out a classic Whitney Houston song, which did not sound good. Oh and she did all of this with a drink in her hand...which is ironic and actually very funny, because I feel like her being on the dance floor she was trying to protect earlier.

Towards the end of her butchering a Whitney Houston song, her worker friend approached the KJ booth and next thing you know, her fiancée was NOW next to sing an Ed Sheeran song even though my friend was told on the mic that he was next.

Oh, and before I forget, the KJ prioritizes people who are regulars or those give him tips, so if you're not a regular or you don't plan on tipping the KJ, then expect to be called an hour after you put in your request.

Stay classy, Recessions!

P.S. The bartenders were amazing though! They were on point and made sure our drinks were...

I visited Recessions this past Wednesday. I was in town on business and like to visit karaoke bars. This place has great reviews, so I was very surprised that I had a not-so-great experience.

The bartenders were welcoming, the drinks good and reasonably priced. The issue was with the karaoke. I arrived at 10pm, which is two hours before they closed at midnight, and I put a song in right away. I didn't get to sing until the very last song of the night, at midnight, after the lights were on and they were trying to get everyone out. Several other people got to sing three times in that same two hours. When I checked with the KJ to see if my request was lost, she said that this is just how she likes to do the rotations. I confirmed with a regular that preference is given to regulars and drop-ins might not get to sing at all.

So, if you are a local and want a regular karaoke bar, this is the place for you. But if you are visiting and only dropping in for one evening, I would suggest going somewhere else if you actually want to do karaoke. I won't be back on my next...
