Anyone who has small kids know that you should always pack snacks and if not you have to deal with consequences (a fussy child). Due to not being able to have food in the building I had to wait until after the tour to feed my kids lunch. We completed the tour and went to the visitors center restaurant. My child was fussy while we were waiting for our food and the supervisor sent a cashier over to tell me to 'go to a secluded area out of the restaurant near the restrooms while we wait for our food'. When I spoke with the supervisor it was as if he couldn't understand why I was upset and responded 'that it is policy to ask parents to walk away from the area until the child calms down or the food is ready' which I absolutely do not agree with personally. He did apologize towards the end but I really don't feel it was sincere it felt more of a I want to be done with this conversation apology. If it wasn't for the grill cook Mr. Williams for bringing my fussy kid 3 fries until our food was cooked (which helped completely calm my child down) and the cashier Ms. Tracey for helping me tray my food, gather the drinks, offered to help carry, cash me out, and then later gave both my children an apple, I would have never spent my hard earned money on this place nor sat down in this establishment and would have taken my complaint higher. I truly thank these two for their help and kindness it meant so much to me. They are the ONLY reason why I am giving this restaurant a two star. As far as the food my kids had the chicken tenders and fries. They ate it and were happy so I'm assuming it was good. Thank you...

Food is served akin to a school cafeteria. You pick up a plate, load it with whatever you want, and pay the cashier prior to heading over to the dining area.
I ordered a U.S. Capitol dome for $8.95 as a dessert to end my tour of the Capitol, and I found it decent; not terrible but not astounding. The white "marble" of the U.S. Capitol is made of white chocolate, and the bottom half of the dome is filled with whipped cream. Strawberries and blackberries are situated at the Capitol's base to complement its flavors. I found the chocolate to be overly sweet, and the whipped cream to taste rather cheap. However, the berries tasted fresh.
Service was kind and the dining area was clean. Decent stop for food around the...
Read moreGotta say, not bad, not bad at all. When some in our party said they could wait no longer and HAD to have a snack while in the middle of the US Capitol, I have to confess to dreading a visit to the cafe in the basement of our nation's headquarters figuring it would be ugly, overpriced, and tasteless. Well it was still in the basement but otherwise was clean and well organized, service was reasonably pleasant, prices weren't too terrible for where it was located ($4 coffee, $6 slice of cake, $5 fancy large cupcake), and the food was actually great quality and tasted good. Plus, it was fun to look around and imagine who may be rubbing shoulders with you (lots of tourists mostly ha) and super convenient for a short pit stop in your touring activities. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but definitely no hesitation to stop in the future if already in...
