Stay away from this place! On Saturday 23/08 I visited this place with a friend. She worked in Armenia and I’m planning on visiting the country this year and I thought it would be a nice touch. As we arrived, the place was visibly understaffed with a very shambolic organisation of the place. I was also quite puzzled that even with table space, people just grabbed their tables like in a chain, but I’m told this may be part of the use in DC. The ordered took a while and we had to find a table by the door as people behind us in the queue already took other tables and there were people just on their laptops with no order, which is maybe something the staff could manage as it was a Saturday at brunch time and people in the queue were ordering food. As I ordered, some items were missing, but our intention wasn’t complete damaged yet so I’ve actually been quite patient and sympathised with the employee at the cashier as she was clearly managing too much. We waited for a bit, I didn’t count the time because I was really not expecting what happened later. This is were everything really went crazy. Because of the longer waiting time, two women who ordered after us got their food before our order. I explained this was unacceptable and asked to cancel the order. The stuff did the order quickly with a complete display of eye rolls, completely blaming me for not being patient. This when they clearly served first someone who clearly ordered after us. I only received eye rolls, I have been talked over, and I’ve essentially been blamed for their lack of organisation. As I said to the staff, I have complete sympathy to them as employees as they’re clearly understaffed, but they just can’t serve people before others and expect no one ins going to complain. There was no manager to talk to. I’ve requested a refund, they said they would do it in the afternoon as there was no manager. Rest assured, I’ve been fully charged on my card. We only decided to stay because they were adamant that the food was ready, We got food in a box to go even if we were sitting, and we decided to leave because it was just getting ridiculous. The food wasn’t even nice, absolutely bland and the portion was ridiculously small for the price (what you see in the pic is over $15). We didn’t finish the food and went somewhere else… Such a shame this place is run like this - definitely stay away. I’m surprise they’re still...

The staff is all super friendly, and they have the most incredible selection of pastries, coffee, and tea. I have probably tried half of their pastry case, and I continue to be impressed with each and every item. I absolutely adore their homestyle baklava -- the phyllo dough is perfectly crispy and soaks up the honey and nut mixture beautifully, and the dessert is simultaneously decadent and not overly sweet. The honey nugget is a great little sweet bite, and is the perfect gluten-free treat or small pick-me-up, and the honey cake is absolutely incredible. It's a smidge overly sweet (as the main flavor is, as the name implies, honey), but it still manages to be amazing.
Beyond their lovely sweets, their drinks are incredible. They have one of my favorite matcha lattes in DC, as well as a matcha rose latte that is perfect when you're looking for a hint of spring. Their coffee is also wonderful, with a great nutty aroma and deep, robust flavor. It's also served in the cutest little Armenian mugs, which really adds to the overall experience.
The space is shockingly large, with 4-5 larger tables and a couple 2-person tables, all beautifully arranged with cute little flower pots and throw pillows. They even have a small stack of books and board games if you get bored of yapping and need something else to keep you entertained. It's the perfect, cozy little spot to either read, work, or catch up...
Read moreI'm so glad I got to visit Yerevan Cafe! It was such a treat. For one thing, the decor is beautiful and ties together wonderfully - the pottery elements throughout the cafe follow a theme which is echoed in the dishware used for hot beverages. There's a lot of art on display and attention to detail, and that is echoed in the food itself.
This was my first time trying Armenian cuisine and it was an enticing introduction!! We got drinks (an iced mocha and a cherry blossom latte) which I quite liked, though there were a lot of options I would really like to try next time! We had the Yerevan trio - khatchapuri, sarma dolma, and soujuk pie as well as lahmajun.
I hope I get the chance to return. They had fridges in the back with Armenian ingredients you can buy. The soujuk, which is a beef sausage, was so flavorful, and I'm pretty sure I saw some in the fridge. I've got to get my hands on some Armenian cheese too, because clearly they know what they're doing. Next time I'd really want to try the red lentil and apricot soup... Also, the trio came with pepper paste and labne - I thought both of these were phenomenal additions.
Last but not least, we picked up a slice of garun and a slice of honey cake. Truly delicious. I would love to try everything on offer...
Beyond that, I found the staff very nice, and it's worth mentioning that the spot is very accessible for those new to Armenian cuisine - the menu explains what each dish consists of which I found...
