This review is strictly on their takeout service. I did not try the buffet.
I ordered mu shu chicken and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. I live in Joplin and there's no place here in town that serves it. I found on Google that King Buffet did in Webb City and it's only about a10 minute drive, so I had to try it. This was my first visit.
I walked in the restaurant and was met with a pleasant aroma that wets the appetite. The size of the building is impressive and several people were dinning at the buffet. The lady that took my order was also very nice and welcoming. I placed my take out order and took a seat.
It took a while for my food to be prepared, which is perfectly acceptable since it was made fresh. It arrived hot and smelled delicious. I ordered the large and the portion size was extremely generous, well worth the cost, which was as of me writing this was just shy of $12.00. It took me another 10 minutes to drive home and I made some frozen egg rolls in the oven to accompany my meal and that took about another 25 minutes. Even after the wait, my food was still steaming hot.
I finally made my plate, took my first bite and loved it. It's no exaggeration that I've been craving mu shu for years and this was just about perfect. It definitely hit the spot. Assuming their service, portion size and flavor remains consistent, I'll be making the trip a few times a month. Well...
Read moreThe buffet that was here previously was terrible so I was scared to give King buffet a try but I’m glad I did because it’s my favorite buffet. Within a two week span I have been here 3 times. Food is awesome and the workers are so nice but I will say do NOT let the waitress take your card up front to pay. The first time I ever came I paid at the counter myself and it was normal pricing. I came on a Friday and Sunday and both times the waitress offered to take all payments from our group to the counter to pay. I noticed the first time I got charged $2.50 extra for a service fee and didn’t think anything of it and still tipped $3 on top of that. Last time I came, Sunday, I paid for 3 adults. When you enter it says the buffet is $11 something..$11x3 is $33. I got charged $53 and didn’t realize until I got home that the waitress added her own service fee of almost $20 when I already added $5 for her..service was great, but filling my water and taking my plates isn’t worth more than the buffet. I really like this buffet so I’m willing to give another chance but I will be paying myself and will no loner feel comfortable tipping if these waitresses are going to take their own tips from...
Read moreIf you're looking for cashew chicken, go somewhere else.
The good. Their fried rice, as unappetizing as it looks(bright yellow), is actually the best thing I had. There was plenty of food. There's a freezer along the back wall with plenty of small cups of ice cream.
The bad. No cashew sauce. No dry chicken pieces other than sweet and sour chicken pieces(I think), it had the smooth breading that I'm not a fan of. The general's chicken was more sweet than spicy. Had more food that came from the water than the land. I was going to get a salad, but the iceberg lettuce was a tiny pile of pieces that looked like all they did was quarter a head. There was more of the other lettuce, but I'm not a fan.
We went in the evening on Valentines Day. It was about $85 for 4 people and a baby, which was free. We all had soda. So for $20 per person, even on a holiday, I expect better, and by better, I mean less seafood and cashew chicken.
I only gave it two stars due to my disgust of seafood. If I would eat seafood, it could be less depending on if it's good or not. However, it couldn't go higher due to not having...
