We were lucky to be invited out to Lobster and Beer in Webster to try out their new menu, and we left incredibly impressed. Despite the name, they offer so much more than lobster and beer (although those are fantastic as well).
Their new menu adds a lot of Southeast Texas flair to a list that had previously featured a lot of New England and Californian favorites. Their crawfish queso had the perfect blend of cheesiness and spice mixed with a ton of crawfish tails. It was served with hand cut tortilla chips that they make fresh daily. Becca and I loved the cajun/tex-mex vibe of the queso, and it didn't take long for it to disappear.
We also tried a couple other starters that really highlighted their attention to quality. Their new chicken tenders are pickle-brined and hand battered, and absolutely melt in your mouth. I don't think I've ever had a more 'tender' (ha) piece of white meat chicken my life. I know they offer a lot of different sauces to accompany their chicken, but Becca and I opted to dip them in that amazing crawfish queso instead. I'd go back for that combo alone haha.
Even though I'm not a big fried seafood guy, we had to try some of their JUMBO fried gulf shrimp and their fried fish sandwich. Super crisp and deceptively light and airy. Everything fried seafood should be. Their happy hour portion of shrimp would be the perfect salty side kick to a couple beers at the bar. The fish sandwich used the same batter as the shrimp and was fried to perfection. The bang bang sauce on the sandwich is the perfect blend of tang and spice and really highlighted the savory flavor of the fish.
You can't come to a place called Lobster and Beer and not try the lobster. So Becca and I tried two different kinds of lobster rolls: Connecticut and Maine. The problem with lobster rolls in the Houston area is that they are usually 35 dollars and tiny ass hell. Surprisingly, these ones were reasonably priced, and packed to the gills with lobster meat. The hint of lemon cut throught the mayonnaise of the Maine roll perfectly, and it was such a refreshing treat after eating fried food. I wish I had an opinion on the Connecticut roll but my wife demolished it before I could even look at the plate. She at least hit me with a "mmm delicious" afterwards.
I also grabbed a beer from Galveston Bay Brewing while I was there. Their beers are always crisp and refreshing, and are a great pairing with seafood. However, the star of the bar was the "My Own Worst Enemy" cocktail that Lauren made for us. It's a mezcal drink with hibiscus and citrus juice, and holy crap I'm addicted. A perfect blend of smoke and citrus that I didn't know was even possible. I canât wait to go back for happy hour for that one.
Overall, Lobster and Beer seem to have figured it out. The addition of some Texas flair, and their focus on quality food and drink impressed us immensely. They are kinda tucked away in the Bayway Village shopping center, but its well worth seeking it out if youre in the mood for amazing...
Read moreI hate to do this.., but let's go. The lobster rolls are not worth the money $22.50 for a hotdog bun and a small lobster claw worth of meat is ridiculous. Do not order the lobster bisque it needs to be renamed to just bisque because there is no lobster in it at all. Later the waitress stated they forgot to put the lobster in the bisque. Seriously how do you for get, it's in the name and on your billboard name... Drinks are priced fairly but God forbid you want a refill of even water. You will not get it, in fact call your drinks in ahead of time before you arrive you may get your drink order within the time frame of eating your hotdog bun. The chips are amazing and the plain bisque is actually tasty but I ordered lobster bisque not luke warm tomato cream soup. The atmosphere is nice and the waitress all though seemed overwhelmed was nice and tried her best. One warm lobster roll and one cold one and they both were the same temperature from the frozen lobster being served. I will be returning in about a month or so hopefully for an updated much much better review, but if they can't get thier act together I'll just wait for Cousins lobster truck to come around. That food truck is cheaper and you get 3 times if not more lobster in your roll. Cousins bisque though is gross even though they actually have lobster in thiers. I really hope this place can make it with overpriced exotic hotdogs that don't have much meat in them and drinks that you just should bring from home and not count on them being...
Read moreThis joint had their grand opening on December 2nd, 2024. I sincerely hope, and encourage, they keep up their current food and service standards so this place will last a long time.
I had the Connecticut Roll and a side order of Old Bay Cheese Fries. I had never had a lobster roll before in my life but this tasted EXACTLY as I imagined it would. It was buttery, tender and had all of the right flavors. I will be comparing every future lobster roll consumed to this standard. And having it accompanied with a Languintas IPA? â¨Perfectionâ¨
The Old Bay Cheese Fries are like any cheese fry dish except with Old Bay seasoning. They were very generous with the cheese, which I find amazing. Usually it's a bowl of fries with cheese on top. Every layer of fries had cheese. All the way to the bottom.
10/10 highly recommend. I ordered some Lobster Mac and Cheese to go for my fiancĂŠ, I will update when I take a bite out of it. Hopefully it won't be gone before he gets home đ
ETA: fiancÊ loved the Mac and cheese, "10/10 would eat again" and I also very much enjoyed it when he allowed me my bite 𤣠He and I will be coming in for lunch or dinner soon
For some added context, I came in after lunch hour and it was nearly empty...
