This Naf Naf Grill location is moderately well designed for the Chicago lunch rush. They had railings to guide people in a snake like manner all the way up to the food bar. I got there fortunately 2 minutes before the lunch rush. The pita machine was at the very front and flour was scattered everywhere. It was not clean and I was very worried about cross contamination. I ordered a basmati rice bowl with chicken. I think due to the fact that the lunch rush was about to start they skimped on rice. The amount of chicken was the typical small scoop so I did not care much. It was very hard to hear the servers but I pointed and said “I want this”. I asked for lots of pickles and the server put so little, she looked at me if I wanted more and I said to put more on. Then she grabbed a bigger scoop and added it to my bowl and that was the perfect amount. I got red cabbage, onions, tahini sauce, garlic sauce, and hummus. I got to the register and they told me my meal was over $10. I was hungry at the time so I didn’t care that it was over what I expected. Did my research and found out that the hummus is $1.50 extra. I wish someone had told me that before they scooped it on. Upon trying to leave during the lunch rush I struggled because once the railings fill up there is nowhere for people to go, so they all crowd by the door. Over all the food was great tasting and I would return, probably not during...
Read more⭐ 1-Star Review: Ordered a Falafel Bowl — Got Everything But the Falafel
I had been fasting the entire day and chose Naf Naf to break my fast, thinking a fresh falafel bowl would be a satisfying meal. I waited 8–10 minutes while they cooked the falafel — or so I thought.
To my shock and frustration, when I got home and opened the container, there were no falafels at all. Just rice, toppings, and sauce — no main item, no protein. The bowl was completely inedible without the falafel. I had to throw away the entire meal, including the pita.
What made it worse? By the time I opened it, the store had already closed, so there was no way to go back and fix the issue. And to top it off, I’m flying out the next day for a week, which means I can’t even stop by to talk to the staff or get this resolved in person.
This was my only meal of the day, and it was ruined. I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated by the negligence. As a PT resident, I will be sharing this experience with the local Facebook groups and community forums.
This wasn’t a small mistake — it was complete disregard for the customer. I will not be returning, and I expect a full refund for this...
Read morePotentially a good spot for lunch, depending on who is working their at the time, and frustration tolerance. The crew working this location can be absolute All-stars, or on other days, confrontational with the application of their ideas on Naf Nafs rules. You need to enter the restaurant a certain way and sometimes express your order in a certain and specific way. It can be like the Seinfeld Soup Nazi sometimes. This is entirely dependent on which crew is working at the time I think.
As for food, it often looks fresh, but sometimes I get the impression they don’t do enough business to cook up larger batches. I’ve occasionally been shorted on protein because they didn’t have enough ready, but they considered what they had out enough for a portion.
Ultimately I avoid this specific location on Clinton, but wanted to provide a review since every other location I’ve been to so far has been awesome.
IDOF/PotBelly/Chipotle is nearby, so keep that in mind...
