I've had my eye on this place for years. My boyfriend and I moved across the street from it over a year ago, and we just recently tried it last month. This place is overlooked, probably by many, just like it was by me. I always thought it was some mediocre sushi place where you'll find your typical Americanized rolls. I was SO WRONG.
I've lived in the city for about 8 years now, and I am not lying when I tell you that this restaurant is top 3 on my list for sushi spots. The fish here is actually really high quality and tastes absolutely delicious (it's imported from Spain so makes sense). It tastes so fresh, which is hard to come by in the city.
If the food wasn't enough for how amazing this place is, the staff and service is top tier. The quality of food and the service there will have you thinking you're getting Michelin star quality.
Talk to your server about the things you like/dislike and they will point you in the right direction of what to get, and will even make accomodations with their special rolls based on...
Read moreTanoshii Sushi in West Loop is easily one of my favorite sushi spots in Chicago! If you’re craving high-quality, fresh, and creative sushi, this is the place to be.
The Chef’s Special is what makes Tanoshii extra special—you never know exactly what you’re getting, but it’s always amazing. You just tell the chef what you like (and don’t like), and they work their magic. Every time, it’s something fresh, flavorful, and beautifully put together.
We also tried the Greentea Apple Mocktail, but honestly, I wasn’t a fan—the flavors just didn’t mix the way I hoped. That said, their happy hour is solid, so there are plenty of other drinks and bites to enjoy at a great price.
Pro tip: Make a reservation! This place fills up fast, especially during peak hours, so don’t risk the wait. The service is always great, and the cozy, welcoming vibe makes it perfect for a...
Read moreThis place is a gem of a sushi joint tucked at the very end of the Randolph Street corridor that borders the highway to the East.
The sushi here is fresh and amazing in flavor, texture and presentation. Sat at the sushi bar where the sushi chef prepared the nigiri and makimono to order.
The uni (sea urchin) was briny and umami. Both the sake (Faroe Isl salmon) and toro (fatty tuna) was rich, luscious and full of fatty flavor. The sushi chef treated me to their salmon belly with foie gras from their omakase menu, which was simply amazing.
Finished with the ebi ten (shrimp tempura) maki that still had a freshly warm tempura and was very tasty. I use very little wasabi and soy sauce so I can taste the full flavor of the seafood.
Staff and sushi chefs were friendly and accomodating for this fairly quick meal. Will need to explore their omakase...
