I recently dined at Rooh Chicago, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience that deserves a solid 5-star review! From the delectable food to the inviting ambiance, exceptional service, and perfect location, Rooh Chicago has it all.
Let's start with the food. The culinary journey at Rooh is nothing short of exceptional. I kicked off my meal with the Pink City cocktail, which was a perfect blend of unique flavors and a great way to start the evening. The Chili Cheese Kulcha was a delightful appetizer that packed a flavorful punch, and the Sweet Potato Chaat was a wonderful explosion of textures and tastes.
For the main course, the Bagara Baingan and the Bengali Lamb Shank truly stole the show. The Bagara Baingan was a flavorful vegetarian delight, while the Bengali Lamb Shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and rich in aromatic spices. These dishes showcased the diversity and depth of Indian cuisine.
The saffron cheesecake for dessert was the perfect ending to an already outstanding meal. Its subtle saffron undertones and velvety texture left me craving more.
The ambiance at Rooh is something to behold. The interior design is modern, yet it maintains a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is beautifully lit, creating a warm and welcoming environment that's perfect for a romantic dinner or a get-together with friends.
The vibe at Rooh is trendy and sophisticated, making it a great place for special occasions or just a memorable night out. It strikes the right balance between elegance and comfort, making you feel at ease from the moment you walk in.
Service at Rooh Chicago is top-notch. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous. They guided us through the menu, making excellent recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable.
The location of Rooh Chicago is also a plus. Situated in the heart of the city, it's convenient and easy to access, making it an ideal spot for locals and visitors alike.
In conclusion, Rooh Chicago is a gem in the city's culinary scene. The food is exceptional, the ambiance is delightful, the vibe is chic, the service is impeccable, and the location is prime. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience that combines the best of Indian cuisine and modern elegance, Rooh Chicago is the place to be. I can't wait to return and savor their incredible...
Read moreI had a bad experience with the food and the service. I was the only customer in the restaurant from about 12pm to 1pm - but the server was not attentive. I picked the 3-course lunch and ordered all parts at the beginning. #1. The appetizer (Sabudana Cutlet) came out timely but it was not tasty. I could not detect the granny smith apples or any sour counter-acting taste. It was like eating a very thick hashbrown with tapioca balls inside. #2. It took another 20-25 min to receive the entree and basmati rice. However, the entree was not what I selected. The incorrect entree and the rice was taken back to the kitchen. My order of Tandoori Cauliflower came about 10 min later. I ate it due to be hungry at the moment. The gravy was too much and overwhelmed the tandoori taste of the cauliflower, of which there was not much to begin with. It was like eating a very thick soup that was drowning the cauliflower. I finished eating. The server was in the back and never came out to check on me or ask how the food was. I waited 5 minutes and then I noticed the time and that I needed to leave to go to my next appointment. I said loudly “Excuse Me” twice and then the server came out. I asked if I could get the last item (melon sorbet) to go because I needed to leave. He quickly left to presumably ask the kitchen to prepare it but he did not return. I also wanted to go ahead and pay for the check but the server didn’t come back out. I asked the hostess who was walking by if she could contact the server. She did this and I gave my credit card without even seeing the check first. This is how quickly I needed to leave at this point. The server finally came back with the check for me to sign. It took a while longer to get the sorbet. I got it and left. However, I checked and there was no plastic spoon in the bag. On the way to the front, I asked the server for a utensil. He handed me something wrapped in plastic which I put in in the bag. I realized later after leaving the restaurant, the utensils were a fork and knife. No spoon! It was not my worst experience and any 1 thing could by forgiven. But a lot went wrong - and I couldn’t excuse how long it took to get the food, the quality of the food, or the absentee server because there was NO ONE else in the restaurant. I would not give them...

I did their Diwali takeout menu. It was AMAZING. Have you ever eaten a meal where you get upset when the food is so good you get mad when you finish eating but then immediately perk up again when the next course comes because it is also amazing? This was that kind of meal.
The chaat first course was so good. Textures were amazing with the crunchy chaat, the creamy yogurt, and the chickpeas. Really fun flavors that balanced sweet and savory. I could have eaten 20 of them.
I chose the lamb cutlet for the next course. I don't usually go for lamb but a friend convinced me to order it. So glad she did that. The accompanying Aam Kusundi was nice and tangy. Wonderful dipping sauce for the lamb.
The sea bass course was AMAZING. I honestly tried to save half of it to have for lunch the next day but failed miserably because it was so good. The Malabar sauce. I could have drunken it straight. It paired beautifully with the fish. I was glad to have the parantha to sop the sauce up.
By the time I got to dessert, I was honestly sad that the meal was almost over. The coconut halwa and chocolate pave was a great end to the meal. Beautiful layers of sweetness :)
I hope to celebrate Diwali every year at ROOH. Hopefully next Diwali, we can dine indoors!
Original post: ROOH had been on my list to eat at but unfortunately I was not able to dine there in person before shelter in place was instituted. Well, I am SO glad they opened up for takeout. Their takeout meal deals are a great deal which comes with an entree, rice, naan, and a dessert. I did the chicken qorma meal and supplemented it with the masala chicken. As soon as I opened the box with chicken, the aroma immediately hit my nose and I knew they were going to be amazing. I was not disappointed. Right amount of kick and cool to have wings with those spices. The chicken qorma was also AMAZING! The sauce was so rich. I was full and wanted to keep eating because the sauce was just that good. I live in Lakeview and it was totally worth the drive to pick this up in the West Loop. I am already planning the next time I go. Incredible food! Highly recommend this place and can't wait to dine there when...
