Went on a Sunday, I ordered a sope dinner $14 and my bf ordered the taco dinner $12. Here's my 2 reasons for docking 3 stars:
Customer service was TERRIBLE, took a very long time to get our order, the male waiter didn't give us enough napkins and eating sopes can be messy so I had to ask him for more napkins. He also didn't refill our drinks at all once our meals were served. Here's the WORST PART, a paleta man was walking by and walked up to the gate and asked the waiter to take an order for him as the waiter was walking by. Instead of the waiter asking him to come inside to place an order, the waiter actually took the man's order from behind the gate right in front of us while we were eating, literally 2 feet away, which I thought was super RUDE and very annoying and the main reason I will not be returning. They were so close I could hear very clearly what he was ordering and I didn't appreciate this given social distancing for covid, what a lack of consideration. This itself lost them 2 stars.
The al pastor sope was super fatty. I kept spitting out pieces of it, gross. The asada taco by bf got he said was under flavored tasted very plain. The rice and beans were not even warm by the time the food came out, they were as cold as the salad. Disappointing.
Flavorwise he and I would say the food was just okay, it was just lacking. We've had more flavorful asada tacos and less fatty al pastor from other taquerias so they lose a star. One plus is that the red salsa they gave with chips as an appetizer was good, also the chicken fajitas sope well flavored and a bit spicy.
I won't be coming back to this place, I've been here a few times before but next time I'm gonna try the place next door, Rabanitas and see if their customer...
Read moreI did not have a good service experience here, my colleague and I were visiting with our kids, I asked if we could have separate checks. This was a Tuesday in the late afternoon, they were not busy at all and our waitress said no. My friend gave me cash and I put it on my card. The food was good, not exceptional. When it came time to pay I was told my total without getting a bill, I swiped, it asked if I would like to leave a tip and gave suggested amounts. I left a tip, she asked if I wanted a copy, I said yes and tossed it in my purse, it struck me as a bit high but I figured it’s because it’s Chicago. At home I looked at my bill, they added the 20% as a service fee and then my tip as well. I had no intention of double tipping, I called, no manager was there, they said call in the morning. After I called back and informed them what happened, she said the waitress should have mentioned it but technically doesn’t have to because it’s written on the menu. She did admit it that most people miss it, I explained that I was used to that for larger parties of 6 or more. Not 4 people on a slow Tuesday. She said I could go in and she would refund me the second tip, I asked for her to mail me a check since I live several hours away. She said no, I explained then I would have to go through my bank, which I did because I felt the whole thing was quite shady. It was a huge waste of my time and I will not go back because I believe many people have been double...

This is what we ordered.
If anyone has ever ordered this dish, it is a homage to Mexico, representing the Mexican flag and culture. It is a dish that is well respected.
It s a dish that is clean. Not messy. Construction workers love this dish because it’s not like the Ranchero. Ranchero is messy often times, but a lot of people like that and enjoy it.
So what happened here? The tomatoes was like a flowing river that the eggs were drowning in. The beans and rice were perfect. A salad with a tomato slice on top of lettuce was provided.
Though they use bell pepper, it is what I use to substitute jalapeños sometimes. We all do it. It still represents the flag.
I would love for them to make it more authentic. Jalapeño instead of bell pepper and DICED onions and tomato in place of long-cut onion and tomato sauce soup.
It appears that their other menu items are a hit - you may want to order them instead of this dish.
Order anything else but this. Other than this bad version, their service and everything else...
