I’m becoming annoyed at “high end” places charging you fees for simple things, like dining in and using their checkout system/app. Lemme explain…

I visited the Vig with some friends we all ordered about the same items. Here’s my order breakdown: cheeseburger (it comes as a double $16), I added bacon ($4 I’ll come back to this one), fries ($7 I’ll come back to this one as well), a cocktail ($17) and a Lil’ sumpin’ beer, 12oz can ($8). There’s a 3% service fee for dining in ($1.73) and to use their self checkout system/app ($1.49). My total with tip was $71 and some change.

I get it, it’s the west loop and it’s gonna be a bit pricey and I’m fine with that. But $4 for two and half slices of bacon? (Might’ve been three.) Geez I was kinda hoping it’d be a thick cut bacon ala Au Cheval, but there was nothing special about it. $7 fries, they were good, it was a decent amount but I honestly have had better fries and they didn’t cost me 7 bucks. I won’t gripe about the price of the burger since it seems to be about par with the area. The burger is good! But it’s nothing to write home about, it kinda reminded me of a Small Cheval cheeseburger. The cocktail was good, perhaps a tad sweet but the price was again on par with the area.

Now the place itself is beautifully decorated, I mean it’s a great spot to hang out for drinks at the bar or for a date night. It’s clean, the service staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our server was training someone but it didn’t affect the attention we received. They were both friendly and attentive.

We visited on a Sunday night, it wasn’t busy and there was paid street parking readily available.

Will I visit again? Yea I probably will, just for drinks. I’ll get a better understanding of their service fee and most likely will have to ask them to remove it...

Disclaimer: I have noise sensitivity so I avoid loud places. So when I walked into The Vig, I immediately said, No ma’am. My guest was already seated so when I got to the table I apologized for picked a restaurant that was lit and started looking for a new place. But God! I would’ve been so mad if I would have missed out on that turkey burger, sweet potato fries and warm carrot cake! WHAT!! The burger, which was topped with bacon and fried egg, was seasoned perfectly. We ate the WHOLE sandwich. And I normally take pics of the food but I was so preoccupied with my goal of eating and running that I never imagined the food would be so damn delicious but a picture wouldn’t do it justice anyway. Oh and the fries, I don’t know what kinda magic is in the dipping sauce but we asked for a second so we could both shamelessly double-dip! The carrot cake is huge and comes out warm. You’ve been warned. Will I return? I don’t really have a choice now do I??!

UPDATE: I received a lovely email from Samantha at The Vig to let me know that the music is not so intense during the week and during brunch. 🥹 This is the representative of the customer service we experienced during our visit.🥰 Thank...

Claimed to be pet friendly, but are you really?

Brought my friend w disability who was accompanied by her service dog, and was asked to present the documentation (which is against the law, if I am not mistaken). After presenting the proof, the server kindly requested clarification on what kind of disability she has 😂

Shame on you. I had to explain to the staff what she could did could put her in legal dispute, but just chose to sit outside on a windy day as I did not want my friend to be embarassed.

Later on, a manager came out and briefly apologized for the way she treated us. However, we were never asked to move inside.

Let's talk about food now.

Scone was good, wish they had clotted cream, not whipped cream tho.

Crab fried rice was awful. Overly seasoned w teriyaki or soy sauceish flavor. Nice try to put gochujang on top of it, but you added salty paste on top of salty rice.

Steak was great.

Caesar Salad was drowning in your awful sauce.

Ordered other dishes as well, but too overly seasoned.

My view might have been different if I went there for dinner, but do not recommend this place if you want to be accompanied by your dog or...
