Tian You Feng Dumpling House — Restaurant in West Covina

This is located inside the West Covina mall near the post office. I was walking around the mall with my mom and saw that they had xiao long bao and it's one of my mom's favorite foods.

They have a good amount of seating inside and with enough space for my mom's wheelchair. The place can get loud since it's inside the mall. We chose their xiao long bao ($12.99), hot and sour ($9.99), combination fried rice ($13.99), and sautéed string beans ($13.99).

The xiao long bao had a thicker skin and was not as juicy as our favorite place but it's still good. It had a good amount of meat inside and it did not dry out or rip when it was steaming. The combination fried rice had chopped spam in it which I don't see much restaurants do. The sauteed green beans were fried enough and had plenty of fermented black beans cooked with it. The hot and sour soup tasted good, both of us were able to get two bowls of soup each with the portion. It was not as peppery or not too sour, nicely thick too.

I think this place has potential but they need to hire more staff. I went at 4pm, not that busy but still the only 2 staff were frazzled and dripping sweat. Our server was nice but overwhelmed and kinda gross with the sweat. Food was not amazing. Green beans and cucumber were my favorite but I can't say the actual dumplings were good. The combination rice was really bad. No flavor and clumps of white rice. The buns had a weird smell... I wasn't sure if the meat was bad? I felt bad complaining, so I didn't eat it. My son also had one and he agreed with me. Plus, it was tough to get our servers attention. I think they need to pay more attention to detail and get more help.
