Hurts Donut Co. — Restaurant in West Des Moines

When I arrived at the donut shop this morning, I expected to be able to get really good donuts, have a good service, and achieve this in a adequate amount of time. This was my first time to visit this location or any location for this business. This is not the service I received. As far as their food, sorry it was pretty good. This is a high-end donut shop and I don’t feel that the price is were a good deal for the quality of the donuts. The donuts are very cute, but the taste doesn’t deliver. The crumble blueberry was the best there was. Now, back to the service. The two employees that attempted to help me, and the reason I use the word attempted is that they didn’t really seem to know what customer service actually was. The first girl was nice and smiled. I was not greeted when I entered or when I was at the counter. I explained that I wanted to get their signature donut dozen. And, that I wanted to be able to pick out six of my very own donuts because I wanted to try some of the other flavors. They did not hear and they did not ask any questions to clarify or understand what I was trying to communicate. As a result, I did not get what I wanted. I did not have the experience that I thought I would have. The customer service skills are either just simply unknown to these two, or the management has a serious problem with educating their workers. For the price I paid, I would expect not only for the donuts to be good and cute, but also receive a certain level of service. And by certain level, I mean good. The young lady that was at the register, never stepped over to help the other girl with the donuts but state station at the register. Even though I was in a hurry, the amount of time that it took to assemble the donuts and assemble the other six donuts that I did not get to pick out, but instead were assumed by the young girl behind the counter. I should have been asked what I wanted. I was not. As a result, I paid more than I should have for the six donuts and in addition, I did not get the donuts that I actually wanted. As you can imagine I will not be going back to this company or this location. I suggest if you attempt to go in and actually get good service that you be very, excruciatingly, clear, on what you would like to get from the workers. We went to Hurts at 8pm on Sunday night. Our family of 4 (2 littles under 6) had never been there before. The donut case is a lot to take in, So many kinds to pick from. While there, my kids enjoyed the Windows to the bakery part. The kitchen staff seemed kind and the young man rolling out yeast donuts interacted with our kids which made their day! The counter staff was a different story. Being a still new store with LOTS of options I would think they would be more understanding of customers trying to make up their minds. The woman behind the counter seemed irritated with us from the moment we walked in. We bought a 'little dirty' (6 donuts) and 2 extras we were wanting to try. Spend $15 which for donuts is a lot to me. We were never thanked for our purchase or offered to add on a drink. We sat and ate part of our donuts and kept the rest for the mornings. In the store I tasted a few of our donuts. I noticed the cake donuts were dry like they were a day old and the frosting was more sugar then flavor on my maple long John. I also noticed they packed The donuts standing up which I thought was weird. The next morning we got up excited to try our other donuts only to find the standing donuts were missing half the frosting as it had slid off of them. Super frustrated! I packed what was left over from breakfast into baggies and that seemed to help the cake donuts a little. Over all I won't go back and won't encourage friends to either. To be completely honest you can get a better donut from Quik Trip for a fraction of the price! And maybe teach the staff some manners. I know your located in Jordan Creek, but kindness counts...

Selection, selection, selection...what a beautiful thing! Not only was my mouth watering but my eyes were having a hard time deciding what to focus on. Each new offering I saw was better than the last! I decided on the German chocolate, maple bacon, and cinnamon roll.

The German chocolate - a moist chocolate cake donut with a velvety chocolate glaze and beautiful dollop of coconut pecan frosting right in the center. It's like a GC birthday cake for one. I almost didn't want to bite into it, as it was so very, very pretty that I didn't want to spoil its beauty. But I did...am I'm not sorry...because my tummy is soooooo happy! The perfect chocolate fix, with a lovely added texture.

The maple bacon - there's only one way to describe it: COVERED...because it is covered in bacon. If it wasn't defined as a maple bacon donut, then you may not even know that the glaze exists...because it is COVERED in bacon. It was the first bite I took, and the first donut I finished in it's entirety. Need I say more?

Lastly, and most notably, the head-sized cinnamon role. And, as large as they are while naked, on display in the case, they really come into their own once they're piled with that phenomenal frosting. I was thrilled to learn that they aren't dry for being so big (my biggest complaint elsewhere) and contain the absolute perfect amount of cinnamon. Unraveling each bit, while adding meticulous dabs of frosting is truly an experience. It's one that I hope lasts forever...or, at least, until tomorrow morning, although I...
